I'm moving to Bala Cynwyd in a couple of weeks, and would love to find some people in the area. I have two boys, 4 and 21 months.
I saw something about a Philadelphia Natural Family Living group, but haven't been able to find info on it. Any leads?
Thanks!
Welcome to the neighbourhood! Pretty isn't it?

The library has a great story hour 3 mornings a week. Its a great way to meet other moms. (Just be warned, the are a lot of nannies there with their charges).

When the weather is nice we tend to hang out in the park on Bala Avenue on Saturday afternoons. By late spring, I should be identifiable by a baby in a sling.

The local LLL is held at the Friend's Meeting house in Havertown (Eagle Road). My IRL friend is one of the leaders . http://www.lllusa.org/web/DelCoMainLinePA.html

I'm not a member but you asked: http://www.fnlp.org/index.php

There is the Penn Valley Penn Wynne MOMS club.

http://www.pvpwmomsclub.com/weblinks.html

I think they are pretty active. There is a membership fee to cover some expenses - but I think it is only twenty or thirty dollars a year. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

Thanks! Threedaughters, what days do you go to storytime? My mom, who lives in Narberth, has occasionally taken my boys on Wednesdays. We'll probably start going on Fridays. (Possibly even tomorrow, in fact.) The Bala Ave. park is just a block from our house, so I'm sure we'll be there a lot, too.
And thanks for the moms club info, I'll look into that.

I don't get to the story hour except during school vacations . I work full time.

If you live near the Bala park then you are *very* close to me. I'm on Birch near Union.

Yup, we're on Union. Maybe we'll see you during your spring break?

Hey, I live near Bala Cynwyd. I take my 6 yo to Narberth Park every week or two when the weather is nice. Usually we are meeting a friend with an almost 4 yo girl and an 18 month boy. We are both in that Families of Natural Living group but the group is in flux because it is separating from the national group. Are you in the area yet? I'd be happy to let you know before we go next. We tend to go from 11ish to 1ish. Sometimes we go to other parks nearby depending on the kids' preferences. We're both unschooling so have a flexible schedule, but the littler child has napping needs so my friend is a little less flexible with times of day.

My kids don't get the traditional spring break, they get off for Passover instead.

We really are neighbours! I wish I could give you an identifying characteristic so you'd know who I was if you bumped into me on the street but I'm just of the pregnant, Orthodox women roaming the neighborhood!

4evermom--I'd love to meet you at the park one of these days. We're not too far--moving from Mt. Airy--and my parents are in Narberth, so we're around there a lot. If you pm me next time you go to the park, I'll see if we can meet you there.
3daughters, I'm sure we'll run into each other. Maybe I'll pm you after we move, and we can meet at the Bala Ave park!

I thought I'd piggyback onto this thread because no one's responded yet to the other thread I started...
I just moved to Narberth last year and I haven't gotten around to finding a doctor for myself. I'm kind of picky, so I don't want to settle for just a name in the phonebook. I'm looking for someone who's knowledgeable, up-to-date, and interested in the big picture, the whole person.
I'm female, in my thirties.

Any recommendations?

Sorry I did not see the other thread.

You may want to try Christine Stallcamp at Lower Merion Family Practice.

Pros:

Located in Narberth.
She is knowledgeable, up-to-date
She is young - in her 30's, has a baby about age two so she gets the joys and struggles of life with a toddler (and why it is hard to get some sleep even if you have the flu!)
The practice itself has great hours, including Saturday hours
It is easy to park (or walk there if you are in Narberth)
The front office staff is friendly

Cons:

She is a little strong on the western medicine side of things although open to other things she would not necessarily initiate the idea herself.
The woman they use as a medical assistant - although I think she actually a phlebotomist - does not perform basic medical assessments correctly; while friendly, she does not instill much confidence. I think Dr. Stallcamp is aware of the problem because she always re-checks everything the assistant has done, even weights - saying she "just wants to be sure".

Overall I am happy with the practice.

It looks like the weather will be decent Monday so I'm planning on going to Narberth Park with friends from about 11am to 1 or 2. I'll be the one with chin length brown hair and a long haired 6 yo boy. I answer to "Liz". Join us if you can.
