Don't worry about it being detrimental, I am getting crap about my being "heavier than average". I started this pregnancy out 10-15lbs heavier than with DD(honestly IDK, I don't have a scale). I am thinking of buying one though, so I can try to keep my weight gain at at the lowest end for a healthy pregnancy. Any recommendations on what to do? With Dd I ate all. the. time. This time I am 15 weeks and just not all that hungry, which could be a mental/physical thing. I've gained 3 lbs so far, I am really trying for a gain of 15-20 lbs. I am not eating ice cream like with her and have opted for frozen fruit bars. I am counting calories and not eating pb and apples like I did every night when pg with her.

So far I have been just keeping my portions small and most meals very healthy. Grilled chicken, brown rice, veggies.

I'm just hating that they are so down on my weight, I'm not huge, I am fluffy, but the nutritionist at WIC and my dr seem to think I am heavy
. So I am trying to keep the weight down. Anybody else?

Me! I am almost 200 pre pregnancy!
So I would like to stay on the lower side of weight gain. I've already started gaining too much weight though and am only 6 weeks 4 days.
: I'm sorry that they are making you feel like they are.

Maybe we should make a tribe or something. I weigh about 190 before this pregnancy, I don't fit into their little box. My Dr isn't that bad about it, and actually people are surprised I weigh what I do.

I just would like to have some guidance other than just the dumb stuff that will be given to me at WIC, like eat veggies and exercise. I do that stuff and still am like this, ugh. Plus exercise isn't high on my list of priorities right now because I have been having back spasms in my sacrum causing my sciatic to go crazy. It's just funny no one ever said anything about it with DD, infact I got lectured one month because I only gained 1/2 a lb, which very may well happen again. I actually feel skinnier than I did a few weeks ago because of all the bloat.

How annoying

I began this pregnancy considerably overweight (about 90 pounds). I lost about 8 pounds in the first couple of weeks of pregnancy, and now at 23 weeks, I'm still below pre-pregnancy weight. My doctor is unconcerned since the baby is growing right on track and I'm eating well and enough. I think he attributes alot of my extra weight to Clomid on and off for a few years, along with recurrent pregnancies, and the stress associated with recurrent losses.

My GD test is upcoming, and since I failed it last time I was pregnant, we've already talked about me being on the GD diet. Last time I did that, I lost about 20 pounds in a month. Doctor is anticipating that again and is still unconcerned.

I'd really love to keep my weight gain low or not gain weight at all. I would be wonderful to have an upper hand on weight loss while nursing.

I would like to gain a total of 15 pounds. I also started out 15 pounds heavier this time around. Last time I gained 35 pounds total, even though I was only supposed to gain 15. I lost it all within a few months after the birth, then somehow put 15 back on. Though my OB has never said a word about it. This is based on what I've read online.

I'm not really doing anything yet to keep my weight gain down. I'm hungry for real food all the time. Sugar and junk sound and feel gross to me, so that helps! Last time, all I wanted was ice cream and pastrami melts. This time I want grilled chicken and chili. I'm too tired to think about exercise, though I hope at some point I have more energy to start some kind of routine.

I just barely passed the GD test last time, and my son was born at 8lbs2oz two and a half weeks early... so I wonder if I did have GD after all. I'd like to prevent that this time!

Me, me, me! I refuse to gain over 25-30 pounds. Of course, I've *lost* 15 pounds due to being so sick thus far, so that should 'help' my problem, but I don't want a ton of baby weight to lose in a few months time. No way, no how.

Nope. I've always been overweight at least by a little, sometimes by a lot, when I'm pregnant and I never had to do anything to keep my weight gain reasonable. I gained 20 with my first and 25 with my second. So far at 21 weeks I've gained like 7.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone had any luck keeping their weight down when pg? I am under the impression that your body will put on what it needs and you should not restrict your caloric intake. That being said, I have heard fluffier mamas tend to gain less because their body knows that there are already reserves.

So far my weight gain is "normal" and I am happy with it, but like most mamas I'm not looking to pack on extra and spend months/years fighting with it. I just eat when I am hungry and focus on a balanced diet with lots of protein. Keppin' my fingers crossed...

I'm also big but not gigantic. I eat a healthy, whole-foods based diet and I am active. However, I started this preg about 20lbs up from what I started my first pregnancy at. Wasn't thrilled but hey.

I was diagnosed with GD and have been extremely well diet-controlled. I have only put on a total of about 16lbs (I am almost 39 weeks). This was not the goal of how I have been eating- its to keep my blood sugars low and I test my blood sugar 4x per day, and figured out a diet that works to keep my BS at less than 130 one hour after I begin a meal.

FYI, diet doesn't cause GD, nor, do I think, can it prevent it. If you have GD (or pre-existing insulin resistance) your body can't process glucose normally. And some people who are thin get it too. Diet can, for some people, keep your blood sugar levels low, and that will prevent the chronic high blood sugar (and hence the complications associated with GD).

Anyway, here is what works for me: I eat 6x per day. I do not restrict fats or protein. I eat NO sweetened foods (doesn't matter what they are sweetened with), little or no grains (when I say little, I mean it, at most only once a say and my serving is about 1/6c of brown rice, 1/3 c. quinoa or buckwheat groats, scant 1/4 c whole wheat pasta. In 2 1/2 months I've probably had 5 pieces of bread, no oatmeal, no crackers, no cereal, certainly no baked treats, granola bars, etc). No fruit juice. Very little milk, 1/2 c or less at a time. I eat TONS of veggies (not potatoes or beets though). I eat a piece of fruit and something high-protein/high-fat for a snack in between meals, but no fruit AT meals.

I also was exercising 2x per day (15-30m per session), though now that I am so gigantic and tired many days I am down to once.

honestly... for the most part I wish doctors would STFU about weight gain in pregnancy and focus more on the eating healthy and staying active part of the equation.

I am a fat mom. I weighed in at almost 270 starting this pregnancy. I'm down around 255 at 18 weeks. This is normal for me. I am not trying to lose or gain weight. I focus on eating foods that are good for me and packed with vitamins and minerals. I'm seeing a mw this time around and she isn't concerned with weight gain - just overall health.

With the ob I had for the first two I was cautioned repeatedly not to gain too much weight. Did not monitor intake and did just fine (net gain of 12 lb with ds, net loss of 12.5 lb with dd). No GD issues. She was not nice about my weight and it really made me PO'd. It wasn't like I was going to lose 100 lb while I was pregnant.

There is a movement to decrease the "allowable" amount of weight to gain for all weight groups. For moms that are in the category I am in, they are actually advocating for active weight loss.
: I wish that they would focus less on weight and more on overall health status: blood pressure, presence of ketones/glucose in the urine, presence of creatine in the urine, fatigue, nutritional status, etc. Yes, weight may be a factor in many things, but I have to wonder how many of the correlations in research are there because of researcher bias against fat people. Ok... stepping off my soapbox.

I have never gained more than 18 lbs max with my prior pregnancies, but then I have hyperemesis, so it's not like I am TRYING to limit my wt gain. My body seems to know how much I need to gain. This time around I'm almost 26 wks and I've only gained 2 lbs. I am considered overweight to begin with, so I guess I should be, "thankful" that I am not one of those women who gains like 50 lbs with each pregnancy...

Me, me, me! I'd like to gain no more than 20lbs. I eat good, no sweets except OJ and I walk a lot.

Though to some degree I feel like my body does what it needs to do. I gained 40lbs + pound with my first son, and though I didn't eat great I was very active.

I am 16 weeks with this pg and have gained 6 lbs... though in the last month I've gained a 1lb a week... I really hope that slows just a bit. I know 1lbs a week is "normal"... but I am already pretty fluffy.

ME!!!!

I'm about 15 to 20lbs overweight to begin with.

I'm 11 weeks along and have gained 3lbs I'm trying to keep my weight in check. My midwife suggests a total of 15lbs to 20lbs total weight gain for the pregnancy. I;m trying to keep to that.

I started out this pg weighing what I did the day before giving birth to dd. (well over 200lbs)

I have hyperemesis so so far, I've lost about 5lbs and I'm only 8w along. but protein and salads/vegies have NO appeal to me and I'm not able to exercise so realistically, I'll prob pack on the pounds at the end unless I make some serious diet changes.

I don't look it, but according to those annoying height-weight charts, I'm "overweight." Or, rather, I was, pre-pregnancy. In case anyone is curious, I was about 180 lbs., at 5'6"-ish.

I've had issues with anorexia in the past, and between that and the morning sickness, I didn't eat much during the first trimester. At 27 weeks, I'm almost at 190 lbs. and don't want to go over 200 lbs. The WIC office likes that my gain has been slow and steady. My midwife doesn't seem terribly concerned. Unfortunately, my loved ones have been giving me the most crap about my "minimal" weight gain and are convinced that I should be stuffing myself silly.
I'm just gonna keep on doing what I'm doing, since it seems to be working.

I started out underweight and at 17 weeks along I've already gained 18 lbs.
I gained 12 during the first trimester alone.
The food made the m/s better for me. I regret it now. I'm trying to eat better and get more exercise at this point. I don't want to be miserable by the time I'm only halfway through the pregnancy especially since I have to be pregnant during the hottest months of the year.

Me.. I am about 20lbs heavier then what I was when I started my last 3 pregnancies. I am hoping to only gain about 20lbs but am trying to to obsess about it. I am eating somewhat well and eating when I am hungry, I have been walking some and am planning on starting to do that more when the weather warms up a bit.

I'd love to and am having *some* marginal success.. I gained 60+ pounds last time around (started at 135 birthed ~195-200ish), and was 145ish when I got pregnant this time.. I'm up to 165ish already
And I'm only 24weeks :sniffle:

Boy, I would love to keep my weight in check this time around. I gained almost 50# with my first (on bedrest for 4 months) and never lost all the weight before getting pg again. I am started about 15# over my starting weight last time around and am hoping to gain in the 20 pound range. I am 27 weeks and I am just about there already!

I am so hungary that I have to eat! I try to make healthy choices but don't always stick to it. I am exercising, though, and hopefully that will help in the long run.
