I built four square foot gardening boxes last summer and grew quite a bit of food in them. Some things did better than others, but hey live and learn.

This time I would like to start some seeds inside. Am I too late? What should I grow?

I'm a Michigan gardener, but of no help to you, as I'm no good at growing food. I'll read your thread, though!

You are not too late, in fact, it's a little too early to start a lot of stuff, except for perennials. First off, what zone are you in? Michigan has several. You can do a search to find out or just tell me where abouts you are on the mitten.

As far as what to grow, what do you like to eat?

You can start seeds in a sunny window but I highly recommend setting up a little grow light area with an inexpensive shop light.

I posted here about my growing area setup, in case you want to check it out.

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...83&postcount=4

Thanks shywyn!

I'm in Grand Rapids -- so SW MI. Zone 5 I think? I'm not sure.

I'd like to do snap peas, (I think I planted these right in the ground last year, but I can't remember!), lots of tomatoes, some jalapenos, cucumbers, zucchini and salad greens -- I don't know anything about growing these. Maybe some kind of squash like butternut or acorn? I don't even know if I can grow those here. . .

Thanks for your help! Your set up sounds totally do-able, too. I'll have to look into that.
