Hi, I'm *finally* heading back to the Phoenix area by the end of this month!!
: I don't want to go to a reg. doctor again as I have issues with them as well as w/ hospitals in general(many bad experiences). i would liek to deliver at home but under my circumstance I will probably not be able to right now. But I have heard so many wonderful things about how supportive/respectful MW's are of their patients who deliver in a hospital. if anyone is in the Phoenix area or can recommend someone around there please let me know?
Thanks

i delivered my last baby under the care of homebirth midwife stephanie penick (gentle hands homebirthing) and i could not say enough good things about here. it was my fourth babe and my second homebirth and my fourth midwife (first in arizona) and I liked her best of all. i never even left my home for all appointments including bloodwork.

stephanie penick and mary henderson are the two midwives who have the best reputation in the state among LLL leaders and so on from my conversations.

even experienced UCers have called upon stephanie if they have concerns. she is very warm and friendly and very un-medical like. 20 something years experience too

If you're looking for hospital-birth midwives the Bethany Womens Center has lots of wonderful midwives. There was only one not-so-great one and she's gone now. I had a hospital birth with one of thier midwives and she was great! Good luck

Seriously check out Bethany Women's Health Care. They are all wonderful and I give special kudos to Lynette, Marianne, and Connie (who assisted at my son's birth!!) The one p[roblem is that about six months ago they switched to rotation for call so you don't have "your midwife." You get the midwife who is on call. Not a huge problem because they are all wonderful, but not as personal. Also, have you considered having your baby at the birth center instead of the hospital? The Bethany Birth Center is about four minutes away from the birth center. On the other hand, as far as hospitals go, I would say that as a mother and a doula, Phoenix Baprtist (where the MW usually deliver) is by far the best in the Valley, IMHO. I've worked really closely with the birth center and Phx Baptist so please feel free to e-mail me if you ahve any questions.

Best!
