Any of you have/will have an amniocentisis? Have you found out the sex?

I just had one last week for two reasons. I am 36 (not too far over 35!) but also because we did IVF and we wanted to be sure everything was proceeding okay. We have been so cautious about everything, hoping and praying everything goes okay, because if we have to start over again, boy it will take a long time.
That morning when they did the U/S, they saw it was a boy! I was excited, but somehow I always imagined a girl. There are boys in both of our families, so it will be a nice change, although I have a ton of friends who have 2 boys and no girls. There's just something about little girls and their pink rooms and girlie stuff that I love; maybe because it brings me back to my happy childhood. But yes, I'm super happy to finally have a baby no matter what the sex!
Anyway, we also received the fast results, and so no Down's syndrome and no spina bifida and no something-or-other that I didn't understand in Italian. We will receive the complete results in about 3 weeks.
I know this is a personal decision for everybody. A friend's sister was diagnosed with a Down's baby, so we trusted the test, whereas another friend of a friend miscarried due to the test. I did the test on Monday, and my gyno had me sit at home for a week to recover from it. I took it easy and everthing seems okay.

I don`t do any genetic testing, if there`s anything wrong I`ll wait & see on u/s. I can understand wanting to know though, many of my friends did amnios at 15 weeks. I will have an amnio at the end for lung maturity though, b/c my baby will probably be early due to blood incompatibility.

I did have an u/s at 13 weeks b/c we couldn`t pick up a hb due to low lying placenta. And I`m having a little boy too!
Wahoo! It's exciting to hear people start knowing genders. Personally we'll not do the amnio or the ultrasound, but if it's right for you, then it's right for you! I'm kinda hoping for a boy this go around, so I'm a tad bit jealous that you know already!

Yay for blue!

Congratulations on your little boy! You'll adore having a boy!

Well I'm not doing any of the tests either(I'm 28 and have 3 healthy children) but I will be getting the big u/s around 20 weeks and I'm really hoping to find out the sex. I guess if I'm going to be 100% honest, Dh and I are really hoping for a girl this time around(we have 3 boys). But I think that mostly comes from feeling a really strong female energy around this pg(I "knew" my boys would be boys before they were even conceived). I've had 3 gender dreams(all girl) and "she" keeps showing me her name. I think I will be shocked if this babe is not a girl LOL!
I'm not doing any testing- no amnio or other tests to look for defects- which I suppose includes "the big" ultrasound. I'll find out the sex when the baby arrives.

At this point, I'm just getting excited about hearing the heartbeat for the first time with the fetoscope :)
I am having an amnio in a couple of weeks to find out if this little one carries the kell antigen and if we'll have to do further monitoring. Yuck! Big needles freak me out!
I won't have an amnio, but I will have an ultrasound at 20 wks (scheduled for next Mon!) and I can't wait to find out if it's a boy/girl. Glad to hear that your tests showed positive results!

Same here. As much as it sounds cool to find out the gender beforehand, I am so glad that we waited until the birth to find out what our first was; because that turned out to be even cooler
(for us anyways).

My last baby was born 16years ago and they blew it on the gender. Told us it was a boy; we had EVERYTHING ready for a boy when SHE arrived. Boy were we in shock at first.

Thankfully I roomed in the hospital w/ a gal who was having her last baby and she had a boy and gave us all her girl things. We were very blessed.

This time around I thought I might want to know the sex, because ultrasounds have come LIGHT years compared to 16 years ago.

ANYWAY, just found out my ex's cousin was told they were having a girl for which they prepared for...pink room, girls clothes, etc. This weekend to their suprise they were presented with a boy.

SO, now I think even if I was supposedly told the sex...I wouldn't believe it till he or she was actually here.
Yes, I totally respect waiting for the birth to find out the gender. In theory I'd love to do that, and it eliminates a lot of problems like your surprise soccermominsd. But for us it was a decision based on the fact that it took us so long to get pregnant doing IVF, we felt liked we had waited enough!!
