DD is still just so teeny. She was 6-10 at birth, and when I took her to the ped last week (7 wks old), she was just 8-1. She doesn't even fit into 0-3 month clothes. We still have her in newborn things. She's now EBF and will nurse for up to an hour, sometimes even more, but she also sleeps about 8 hours straight through the night. Tried waking her to nurse, but she'll have none of that - baby girl wants her sleep! I nurse her until she clamps her mouth shut or falls asleep. I can tell she's not done if she wakes right up after popping off. She'll nurse every 2-3 hours during the day. Still, she doesn't seem to be gaining all that quickly.

Now, she is growing. She did manage to stack on almost 3 full inches since birth. But at this rate, she'll be wearing 6 months clothes when she's a year old! I know she's still young, and honestly, her ped isn't concerned in the least, but after having DS - who grew so fast he was off the charts by 6 months - this is a whole new world to me. Please tell me I'm not the only one...

My Iris is a peanut. She's the smallest of all my babes..weighing in at 7lb 4oz at birth, down around 7 even at her lowest. By one month she was only up around 8 even, gaining in the way lower limits of normal for a breastfed babe. She's now almost 8 weeks and is 9lbs and some change. We'll find out just how much she is this week at her 2 month check. I'm was a little worried at first about her slow growth but that's pretty par for the course with all my kiddos...they have all been slow growers. I'm not a big person myself and Iris weighed an ounce more at birth than I did when I was born. I just think she's following in her mama's footsteps.

There is so much more to take into account than weight. We can so easily get hung up with the numbers, yk? Is your dd's output good? Is she alert and reaching developmental milestones appropriately? Those things mean just as much as lbs and oz do.

I've had a tiny baby, a BIG baby, and now I think I have one that's growing sorta average... babies really do come in all shapes and sizes!

My first was born at 6lbs 2oz (at 37w) and by 2 months he was only 9lbs 3oz!!!! At a year he was 17lbs (like the 'third percentile' for those stupid charts). However he was healthy, alert, active, and had plenty of poopy and wet diapers.. he just grew slowly.

My second was/is a hos and grew really fast! He was 8lbs 6oz at birth, and 17lbs at 4 months!

My current baby has put on about 4lbs since birth now (8lbs 2oz at birth, 12lbs at 9 weeks).

My first daughter was small at birth and is now a tiny 3 year old...her 20 month old brother is bigger than her. She is no longer even on those stupid growth charts anymore but she has been through every test under the sun to make sure that her slow growth is just that and not something else. I went through a very frustrating two years with her until I learned that numbers aren't everything. As long as they are growing and developing they are fine. There has to be some small babies out there too! Try not to worry...I know, easier said than done sometimes!

My Calli was 6,9 when she was born and 6,4 when we left the hospital. At her 4 week appt. she was 8,9. She is 6 weeks now so I don't see the ped again for another 2 weeks. I am sure she will be 10 something by that time. I thought she was growing like a weed....guess she is still small LOL. I guess I don't have anything to compare her to though, since she is my first.

Jenn, not all babies are super big!

My baby Jasper was 6.6 at birth and got down to 6 even when he left the hospital.
He was full term, perfectly healthy and is very alert and focused, enjoys reading his black n white books, "talks" back to me in answer gibberish and smiles at me when I whistle. Yet people always ask if he is a preemie. I mean, being over 6 pounds is considered okay and he is healthy so it bugs me a bit.
At his last ped. visit, he was 7.3 so I would guess that at week 7 now, he is 8.3. The doc said he should be gaining an ounce a day.
He is EBF-ing and the doc said no supplementing is needed as he is fine for his rate of growth.
He is still in his newborn clothes too.
ps- I opened your thread b/c I call him my peanut baby.

ally rae is still really petite but look at her mama! she's still in nb dipes and is just now a bit too long for her nb clothes though the 0-3mo are awfully big. i think she's about 10lbs and is 9wks old today. she eats all the time and is gaining weight though so i think she's just going to be like me and be petite. she has plenty of dipes each day and is advancing nicely in other ways. she was 6lbs 10oz and 18.5" when we left the hospital.

ETA: Ally's not skinny or thin by any means but she's definitely small. She has rolls but she's petite.

*sigh* It's good to know we're not the only ones with a teeny bean on our hands. She is our super-soaker, so I know she's taking in enough, she just isn't gaining very fast. She is so alert and a relatively happy baby, I know I shouldn't have worried.

My first was 8lbs 3oz at birth, 12lbs 3oz at 2 mos, and only 12lbs 4oz at 4mos! He was 17lbs at a year, and now at 2 years is 27lbs fully dressed. Ainsley is 9lbs 10.5oz at almost 7 weeks, she was 7lbs 1oz at birth. I don't know what percentage that is but she seems awfully chunky to me
I don't want another skinny one, I want a fat one for a change!

I have a peanut here too.
: She's not super skinny, just small. She's 2 months old today and weighs approx 9 lbs 4 oz (last weight a couple days ago). Still fits in her NB clothes except for length in the sleepers. Still wearing NB covers and using preemie sized prefolds. But she pees and poos up a storm, is doing great developmentally... and the girls in my family and DH's family just aren't that big. I'm 5'1 and my mom and sis are 5'3, and DH's mom and sis are within a couple inches of that. Ph yeah and she was 6'12, 19 in at birth, lowest weight 6, 6. So she's put on almost 3 lbs in 2 months.

I have a baby on the rather thin side too. Now, she was 9lbs 7oz at birth so it's not like she's a tiny baby. But at 9 weeks since birth she is only 10lbs 13oz (in the 50 percentile for weight...but not sure if that's the old charts, based on formula-fed babies or if it's for breastfed babies who gain differently, on average). But she has grown lengthwise - at 23 inches now- and head circumference- both at 75th percentile. She is exclusively breastfed too and eats lots during the day then sleeps for 4-6 hour stretches at night (and yeah, we had similar experience trying to wake her to eat, we stopped trying that when she was about 2 weeks old- the lactation consultant wanted us to do that, to get her to heat every 2 hours or so but she didn't want to eat then and since I just figure feeding on demand is what is best for her). Lots of pee and poop diapers and she's meeting the developmental stages.

So, I try not to worry. Her dad is very tall and thin and I'm tall too (and was a thin baby, accd to my mom) so I figure genetics has something to do with it. Babies come in all kinds of sizes, just like grown-ups!

Although, it's hard when I read about babies in our ddc that have doubled their weight since birth. Then again, if Thalia doubled her birthweight she'd be 18+ lbs!!!

My baby Meadow is a tiny little thing. She was 5lb9oz at birth, and at 6 weeks is barely 7lbs. She was born and 38.5 weeks, and is very healthy, just tiny. It's so hard to find clothes that fit her, and our friend made her some hats because all the store-bought hats were too big. She is a big eater, and I am producing plenty of milk for her, and can tell by her diapers that she is getting enough to eat. I was a super tiny baby like that too, but now I'm 5'9" and 140lbs! So I'm not worried - yet. I expected to have a big chunky baby, but I love my little peanut!

ps- I was in the Nov. DDC, but Meadow came in October
