Hi! My husband and I are thinking about moving to Santa Monica. The company dh works for has a branch there, and there are some exciting opportunities for him, so we're actually seriously thinking about it.

I looked on the LLLInternational website, and there's no LLL group listed in Santa Monica. Does anyone know if there's a LLL group, or an AP group around there? I'm active in LLL here in my hometown, and we are an AP family. I've got a nursing toddler & we cosleep, etc....

Also, if my dh ends up working in Santa Monica, does anyone know if that's the most cost effective place to live if you're working there, or is there a very nearby town that's less expensive but still safe & nice?

Also, I was wondering about the weather and the seasons. I'll be researching this on the net, too, but I just wondered if anyone could also tell me about it from the standpoint of a resident.

Basically, what do you love, or hate, about living in Santa Monica?

You should hop over and join us on the LA mamas thread, there are several of us in the Santa Monica/ west LA area and we (try to) meet about once a month. We have a great LLL meeting in Mar Vista on the 2nd Monday of the month and a toddler group on the 4th friday a little farther inland.

I was born and raised here (west LA, south bay area) and DH works in Santa Monica now. I adore just about everything about living here, the only real set-back is the cost of living, which makes me too upset to even talk about Many who work in SM live in Palms or Mar Vista, which are just southeast and south (respectively) and are WAY cheaper, but still pretty pricey. 2 bdrm apts start around $1200 now and 2 bdrm houses rent for close to $2K. You can find better deals, but it's hard. The average, small 2 bdrm house sells for over $300K.

But, like I said, besides all that wretched money stuff, I love LA

If dh's job is in Santa Monica, I would also check out Culver City. I think it is a terrific little town.
Very strong community and very easy to get to Santa Monica.

I actually prefer it to mar vista and palms because it is its own city and has its own municple funds and the parks and schools are more small townish and they are redeveloping lots of it especially the downtown section.

But what rubelin says is correct they are very easy travel to santa monica and have their perks.

here's a link to the culver city map.
http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=...lon=-118.39556

Geez, don't know why I didn't think of Culver City! It's one of my favorite cities around here. Definitely worth looking into.

Hi there,

I have lived in SM for over 20 years and I must say that it is the best place to live in terms of weather and schools. I'm a beach fanatic so I could go nowhere else. I personally hate to drive so everything I do is in SM. If you need help finding a place, email me and I'll be glad to help you. Are you looking for a house or apt. I just rented out a 2bed/2bath 10 blocks from the beach for $1800.00. It will be available again before summer. The cost of living here is expensive but it's worth it.

Gotta go back to work.
