Knitted Toys by Zoe Mellor?

I just bought it yesterday cuz Joanns is having a 40% off sale on their knitting books. My sil is pregnant and I really want to make them the elephant in the book for the baby. Trouble is I have not yet knitted a toy, and I am confused.

I could type out the instructions that I am confused on, but I was hoping someone could look at their book and just help me along a little

Thanks

Thanks estirbunny!

I will try to explain...let me know if I am not clear!

1) So it says to knit a front leg, then leave sts on a spare needle. Then it says cast on to knit a back leg. Am I to use the same yarn? Was I supposed to break the thread after the front leg? It doesnt say to break it though it does later in different parts, so that is why I thought I am not to break it.

Q2) After the back leg, front leg, and then a seperate piece for the trunk have been knit it says to knit across legs, knit across trunk to the last st, inc. (62sts.) I am assuming this means to just knit across the three pieces thus making them one, but when I add the sts for each piece I get more than 62 sts total, so I am lost again!

Q3) Also for the back leg it says cast on 11 sts. Work 17 rows in stockinette. Then Cast on 7 sts and purl....how do I cast on in a part that I already knitted? Just the same as I casted on to begin with?

This probably makes me sound like a beginner....I sorta am. I have done scarves, hats, babylegs, and started a sweater, I just have not had to do these types of steps before!

Thanks for your help!

I think they are on sale until Sat. I am not quite sure though...

Ya. I wished I had known Zoe is hard to knit...now I have my heart set on knitting this, and it needs to be done in a month. Ug! I will try to read through that technique Papayamom when my lil ones are down for nap.

Would you happen to know if there is a giraffe pattern in that book?

I have two knit toy pattern books and NEITHER ONE has a giraffe. I did find a blogger who has a pattern she'll be selling soon but it isn't up yet, it is real cute though I will likely just purchase that.
