Do you live in Poulsbo? Do you like it? What are pros and cons? What are the commutes like around there (dh will be going to the Sub base) I am looking for something more rural than Silverdale, at least would like a huge yard. We will be homeschooling and would be up for a little country living. What kind of fun (educational) things are there to do around there? Any homeschool co ops or support groups? Active 4H? Boy Scouting opportunities? Any info would be great. We are moving to the area in about 4 weeks and would like to buy a house before xmass. Thanks.

Hi Monica,
I don't know too much about the area but I have some feelings about it. I love Poulsbo, much more than Silverdale. Although both of these areas are great, especially from a recently transplanted (Virginia) girl. There seems to be a lot of rural places in Kitsap County. I have a wonderful realtor from John L. Scott. She is English and her son attends our Waldorf School. We were really happy with her and she found us a great house with land. We have nearly three acres which is so wonderful! Most of it is forested as well.

There seems to be many farms in Kitsap County and lost of animals especially horses. We went to the Kitsap County Fair and there was a huge 4 H display. Tons of animals from them. I think they also attend our Bainbridge Farmers Market. On Bainbridge there is a huge homeschooling community and I would imagine that Poulsbo would be very similar. There seems to be a lot of resources for homeschoolers here.

When I drive from BI to Silverdale, the drive through Poulsbo is very slow and congested, most due to one traffic signal. I am not sure why but it is a real pain. We have luckily found a back road that misses most of this. But I would definitely suggest the Eastern or Western side of town. Poulsbo has a wonderful market called Central Market that has a huge organic and healthfood section. They have tons of bulk foods, teas, oils, and herbs. It is really wonderful.

I hope that is helpful. If you would like me to give you my realtors details, please just ask. She would be happy to work with you.
warmly,
faerydragon
