ok, we bought charlies soap and I don't know if I like it or not, but we are having problems.

first off, it didn't get food out of one of dd's shirts, and now it is stained for good I think. It was macaroni and cheese sauce. Our old detergent always got that out (with some in the wash stain remover too - I think spray and wash liquid).

With diapers, our inserts, fitteds, and snap in AIO soakers (even those topped with microfleece) are coming out soft and clean, and I think we've cleaned up some build up from them too. Everything comes out absolutely wonderful, the best we've had yet, except the pockets.

Our pockets come out stinky! The only time we had this problem in the past, was when we were using a detergent that just didn't work for us.

I've contacted Charlies Soap CS, they told me there recommended method for cleaning diapers is a cold wash with nothing, followed by a hot wash with charlies, and either vinegar or bleach in the rinse.

This is what I had done without bleach or vinegar. Well, I can't use bleach regularly on the diapers, so I tried vinegar, but there was no difference - the pockets still stink.

With our old detergent, I always used a capful of calgon water softener with the detergent, so I tried that with Charlies, but the pockets still stink.

Our old method also involved using a squirt of dawn in the first cold wash, so I tried that too followed with using Charlies in the hot wash. the pockets still stunk.

I've tried all sorts of stuff, but it seems like no matter what I do, the pockets always stink when I use Charlies Soap.

Any ideas? I really want to love Charlies....

I just wanted to add that we had no stink issues with our previous detergent,

I've had a hard time getting synthetic fabrics clean with some detergents. They just like to retain odor. Do you wash them all together? I guess you could do another load for pockets with your old detergent (that might be a pitb, though)..

I use Charlies and love it, I use it on everything. Now and then the clothes (baby clothes) don't always come clean - (they didn't always before charlies) so I just do an over night soak in oxiclean and everything is wonderful.

My advice is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
If you have a washing solution that works, buy all means STICK WITH IT! I never in my life would think that there were so many variables to washing anything! But I've read around here long enough to know not to mess with a good thing and don't over complicate the process or you'll soon learn to hate cds.
