I'm interested in doing this but not sure who to contact. Anyone done it? What kind of training do you do? Is it volunteer or paid? Do all WIC offices offer it? I think I eventually want to be an IBCLC.
I'm getting ready to start doing this, but I still don't have alot of information. Our counties program is new so I will be the first PC. Not all offices have peer counselors. The training varies state by state. I was able to do my training via conference calls and 2 in person sessions. That type of training is fairly new so not sure if it's available everywhere. It is paid, but it's not much.
Contact your local WIC office. If no one seems to know anything ask to speak with the director. If there is not a program already in place you could let the director know how beneficial it would be in your community.
