It's ok. I'm glad it will be taken care of, and I will still be able to attend some of it.

I already have a roomie but when I called to make my reservation they told me at the time I arrive I will be given the group rate, but technically they the block of rooms were all full at the time. So officially I am paying full price but at the time of check-in they change it. Maybe the clerk was lying to stop me from sighing down the phone.... but that's what she said. I made my reservation about 1.5 months ago so there must have been quite a rush on the group rate.

I was there today to see Pam speak, and she ROCKED! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"> I also was so happy to get to meet Sara Wickham, Robbie Davis-Floyd, and Jan Tritten, who are all the most wonderful amazing women. Bummed that Ina May and Michel Odent were nowhere to be seen though.

She was a little nervous at first (understandable) but then she got into a groove and she was totally provocative and compelling! She told it like a story, starting with her apprenticeship, then talking about being challenged by unassisted birth philosophy, then rereading authors like Michel Odent with this new perspective, then about how she incorporated these ideas into her own practice and the struggles she's had in doing so. There was a lot of head-nodding in the audience. People loved her! They deluged her afterwards, everybody wanted a piece of her. And let me tell you, she looked so cute. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love"> It is really a breath of fresh air to see her Betty Page hairdo and fishnet stockings in a sea of hippie midwives. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> Not that there's anything wrong with hippie midwives. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> In fact, there were these two amazon hippie women with dreads sitting right in front of me and I just couldn't stop staring at them they were so beautiful and filled with such a light energy. I miss Eugene sometimes...<br><br>

I would like to see these conferences more accessible, with scholarships, reduced prices, more mother/baby friendly. I know it's education and has it's costs, but sometimes that can be prohibitive, and we should be making midwifery more available both to the consumer and the midwives-in-training. I can't attend the classes this year...sadly...because I cannot afford to (thought I could) with a new baby. BUT I'll go Saturday to visit the booths and see my friends.

ME ME ME!!! I live in Salem, (quite close to Pam I'm told.) I can't afford to go this year, but I want to know when you guys meet up. I know I can get my DD taken care of, and DH knows how much these kind of thing mean to me.
