I got my first shot on August 27th. The past 3 days I've had horible nausea and diarhhea. I also get the runs when pg and before af. So should I assume it's me getting used to the hormones?

I was on it in college for quite some time. I remember being sick for the first week or so. I ended up not doing depo because I always felt "off" while I was on it. That and I never remembered to get my shots on time so it was pretty stupid to keep getting it!

Anyway, yeah, I think your body is just getting used to it.

lol thanks hun. That's what I figured. Esp since it took about a week for the symptoms to show up (meaning they are fully in my body now)

I was on the depo shot in 2000. It was the most horrible time in my life. Watch your symptoms very closely. I had terrible anxiety attacks, gained about 40 lbs, and had heart palpitations on it. My step mom freaked out when she found out I had gotten the shot. She is a nurse and said that it causes your body to think it is going through menopause.

I've been on it before. In 2004. I need to go into menopause. This is our first step to making me infertile. I'll be on the depo for 2 years and then get an ablation.

Weight gain I'm praying for it. I weigh 110 lbs

Sounds like it should be okay for you. It is funny how something can work for one person and be horrible for someone else. I have always had weird side effects from meds.

I was on it for 4y pre-DD1. Never even had break through bleeding or anything, did gain a few lbs, but like you, I needed to. Once my body adjusted to it, I felt fine.

I used it once back in the early 90's and I felt like crap. I one injection and vowed never to use it ever again.

I had it for about 2 years - two times (4 years total), right after college. I loved it. I went from 96 lbs to about 105-110, so the weight gain was no big deal. I never had breakthrough bleeding - my periods completely stopped. My migraines were WELL controlled and I wasn't moody at all. Apparently my experience here at MDC isn't typical. I do feel like my sex drive decreased, but it wasn't a problem in the relationship. It's when I came OFF the depot that I got all horny and had no one around anymore...

I don't remember and nausea, moodiness or the runs, but it was so long ago and I might not have attributed those symptoms to Depo.

I was on it about a year as a teen. It turned me into super B. It's not recommended for long term use, something about it causing brittle bones.

I'm sorry this is long, but I have been wanting to write it for a while so....

The depo shot ruined my life!

I wish I had researched it before I took it. I had a molar pregnancy and then a d&c to remove the mole. I was in such a messed up haze I stupidly got the depo shot w/o researching it....big mistake, and I only got the one shot.

I gained about 40 pounds, became withdrawn and sad, and could not have sex with my husband for nearly 3 years because it was incredibly painful. In fact it almost ruined our relationship because I was unable to produce any lubrication and my poor dh was questioning whether I loved him or not.

And all those years I was trying to get pregnant because I was so hurt after my first pregnancy turned out the way it did (molar). Trying to conceive while experiencing such painful intercourse was awful. When people heard we were "trying" they would make comments about how fun it must be .... yeah right! I would grit my teeth and bear it because I thought if I could just have a baby it would maybe put my body back in order.

As it turns out....my ds, now 6 months old, saved my life! I haven't felt this good in years. I finally feel like that horrible shot is out of my system. I can actually enjoy sex now!!!! It doesn't hurt! I blame it all on depo. I will never ever take another birth control again. I cannot risk messing myself up again.

I really hope that these horrible things won't happen to anybody else. I am so against depo. I can't even look at the doc who prescribed it to me, we live in a small town and I see him often. I know it was my choice to take the depo...but he made it possible.

If there is any good in this situation, it is that now I am more aware. I look at the medical community very warily, and take a much more natural approach.

To the OP, I really hope you do not suffer as I have. Please research depo more and I wish you all the best.

After the initial long period no extra spotting. No worse then usual moodiness. Only main symptom I have is slight darkening of the skin
