What are you going for?

Cleveland Clinic is very interesting, to say the least.

I'm from Cleveland... If you have any questions about the area, please PM me. I work nearby. The Clinic is something else. It's huge.

I'm also in Cleveland. In fact, my brother has been hospitalized there for the last two weeks and my husband works for one of the affiliate hospitals. It has a lot of positives, but some negatives. Overall, the care my brother has been received has been excellent. My kids are going for a genetics work-up in the spring, and I've heard they are very thorough and nice.

It's big, busy, and very shiny. They use a lot of chrome for their decor. It reminds me of a mall except instead of buying a new pair of shoes you're going to see a doctor. The food court even has a McDonalds and a Starbucks (the fact that McD's is there has come under a lot of fire by their own docs, especially the cardiology peeople.) It's easy to get lost in because there is so many people, but don't hesitate to ask anyone how to find where you're going. Are you going to be staying nearby or driving in?

We're staying nearby. Well we were. I'm not exactly sure where the place is we are staying is now :

Chrome. Hmmm...that should be interesting. And I : that the docs don't like the McD's. That makes me And my dh will be pleased about Starbuck's.

So far, they've lost all the records for one of my children. BUT they also tried to get us in almost as soon as the doctor reviewed our records. So

I'm hoping/praying for competent, compassionate, and curious. My ped friend says that's a lot to hope for in one doctor.

We're going to get there a day or two early. Anything that we can go do that would be fun for nearly 7 and nearly 3 year old boys?

My ILs are in Port Clinton which is outside of Sandusky. And they're gonna drive and come see us.

What is the name of the coop?

I think that the place we are staying is making meals for us, or at least some.

There is a Trader Joes in Beachwood and Westlake. I think the Westlake one would be closer, but it still would be a fair drive, about 25 minutes. Beachwood has also a Wild Oats.

Anyone have any ideas what to do for each boy while the other boy has his appointment? I want my dh to be in the appointments. But each appointment is 2 hours long. I doubt they are going to be able to sit through 4 hours total together in a small chrome room.

My son loves the Natural History Museum and the Crawford Auto & Aviation Museum. They're both in the University Circle area. (http://www.universitycircle.org)

The Clinic will provide transportation the museums, I think. They used to anyway. I think it's a great place as far as care goes. My only complaints are that they are easily confused with billing and they are ruthless about fundraising. They'll send you letters asking for donations really quickly.

I go there and my oldest son does too. I'm there for Occupational Therapy for my hand. The hand clinic is state-of-the-art and I've enjoyed my therapy immensly. For my son, we've had okay results. It's hard to take kids there, tbh, because it's sooo big. It can be very stressful. DS1 has a meltdown, I swear, every time we go there. Take it easy and bring snacks! I live just up the road, if you'd like to see a friendly face. I'll PM you my #.

The Food Co-op is great. It's a full grocery store and they have vegan and veggie lunch choices in the deli, which are delicious. There's an Au Bon Pain in the Crile building at the clinic itself, which is pretty busy, but has lots of bready things and some good lunch choices. I often get my kids a cookie there after therapy.

The Natural History museum is the best, imo. My kids really enjoyed it when we went (for the first time, sadly) last week. It's a bit pricey though, I must say. $15.00 for 2 of us. There's a Sue the T-Rex exhibit there right now.

Thanks Anna Kiss!

Evidently the department said there is parking right outside their building. We will see if that works out! I'm not sure if we will have time to get together and play except with the ILs....unless they ask us to stay longer and have more stuff done the following week. If that happens, we will be needing some playmates for sure!

Okay, food we will definitely have with us. I wish we would hear back from the folks we are staying with!

Natural science museum would be great for dh and the boys....

What is the Children's Museum like? Ours here is okay for littles, but for my 7 year old, he mostly just RUNS which makes me :

The Children's Museum has a big room full of sand as their Egyptian Sands exhibit. Just one big room full of 3 feet of sand. It's so cool. Downstairs there is a huge water table thing. I love the Children's Museum, we have a membership and I take my 4 and 2 year old almost every week.

And yay! the Whole Foods is opening soon. But it's still on the east side, everything good is on the east side. Whole Foods, Wild Oats, TJ, Mustard Seed. All I have is TJ and very small HFS.
