I only caught about 10 minutes of it where they brushed off the autism/vaccination connection with "studies have shown otherwise" - it was mostly about kids being diagnosed with it, families raising autistic children, the prevalence of it...thoughts?

Lately I've been thinking same shit, new week.

But yeah, I've basically avoided all media exposure lately. Someone I know seems to watch whatever is being shown, and calls me excitedly, not realizing these segments, imo, mostly regress autism education.

Sorry. Sore subject.

I was annoyed with the whole piece but not surprised; like you all said. Its the same crap. My father who told me to watch the piece however will now be sure to annoy me like statements like, "I told you vaccines didn't cause autism."

Just wait until all the VICP autism cases come before the judge in June - the CDC is going to be falling all over themselves with the damage control . . . and then we have to see Offit's mug all over the news for a few weeks. :

FTR, thimerosal is (conveniently) going to be discussed at the upcoming ACIP meeting on Thursday and Friday. On the agenda, it's listed as: Thimerosal: Reviewing the Evidence

Can't wait to hear the BS on the news the day after. Then the real BS when the actual minutes to the meeting come out in three months. It's always interesting to see what doesn't make the news.

Here's a study (from the CDC website):

The Autism and Biopsy Study.
This study is investigating the question of whether the MMR vaccine may cause autism by a mechanism involving persistent measles virus infection in the intestine. This study involves examining the intestinal tissue of children with autism for the presence of measles virus. Results are anticipated in June 2007.

The results were supposed to be made known by the end of 2006 according to the CDC, but the CDC recently changed the expected date on it's website to June 2007. And what do ya know, the Autism Omnibus Proceeding (aka "Vaccine Court"), which as I stated earlier is being held in . . . you guessed it, June 2007.

It's going to be interesting to see if the results will be made public before or after the proceeding commences.

I've never doubted a genetic link/predisposition, so articles like this are neither here nor there for me personally. FTR, my issue is that most mainstream publicity won't (or doesn't even know to) acknowledge a vaccine and/or immune-health correlation. It's a disservice to the flood of newly dxd parents to not give them the option of another factor to research.

I'll have to remember that the next time I look at my nine year old son . . . the one that is no longer considered autistic because we treated it like the immune system disorder it is . . . instead of that "genetic mental disorder" that was going around.

If I had listened to mainstream medicine's "evidence" back then, my son right now would probably be in a special education school, doped up on three different medications . . . and have a weekly appointment with a psychiatrist.

It's just a shame that I had to literally go to the ends of the earth to uncover the "alternative" treatment and testing instead of hearing about it from my ped or the government.

mainstream medicine is not asking the right questions.

until there is a large sample, long term study comparing the autism (and obesity, and cancer, and autoimmune disorders) rates between vaxed and unvaxed (and i mean TRULY unvaxed) people, there is no way that anyone can unequivocally state that there is no link between vaccines and autism.

but apparently studies like that only happen when, like, you know, pigs fly and stuff. who's going to fund it?

So out of curiosity, did a mainsteam doc(allopathic one) document in his medical records that he was no longer autistic?

I'm not sure what his former ped documented in his file, but I would imagine something was documented. Each year when we went for a school physical (he was a patient up until he was in first grade), the doc would say things like, "I can't believe this is the same child."

I can never hear that enough - from family members, school personnel, acquaintances . . . it's music to my ears!

The hypothesis is dead and stinking. What that means is that as a path to an explanation, the idea has been considered, investigated, and rejected as unpromising. No one can state unequivocally that there isn't a link between SUNSPOTS and autism -- but as a hypothesis, it's going nowhere.

It is reasonable to describe science as the business of eliminating dead-ends. But those dead-ends are seldom identified by scientists who know from the outset that this is where their exploration will lead; no one wants to be in the position where they must stand up in front of a group of their peers and report that an idea they had been enthusiastic about and to which they had devoted time and resources has failed to pan out.

A bit of an aside, but an interesting tidbit (from wikipedia):

"By the time of Pliny the Elder in the 1st century, however, the Earth's spherical shape was generally acknowledged among the learned in the western world."

"The modern misconception that people of the Middle Ages believed that the Earth was flat first entered the popular imagination in the nineteenth century, thanks largely to the publication of Washington Irving's fantasy The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus in 1828."

Don't feel bad. I was also misinformed about this in public school. I think they're still teaching it wrong. Old ideas die hard, eh?
