By that I mean, without your mattress on the floor? We got rid of our metal frame (which I hated anyway) and put our mattress and boxspring on the floor when ds started being able to move around and possibly fall off the bed (which he did maybe 2 or 3 times). He is 2.5 now, and I am no longer worried about him falling.

I realllllllllly want to buy a nice bed frame, one that would put our bed pretty high up, but we are planning on having another baby, and will cosleep.

Does anyone cosleep with a high up bed? What precautions do you take?

We have a sleigh bed that is pushed up against a wall. The gap between the wall and the bed I have stuffed with pillows. When ds sleeps by himself we put the bed pillows along the outside edge. We have a pretty thick carpet on top of our wooden floors so when he has fallen off he hasn't really hurt himself, just startled. That said, he has fallen off a few times but mostly before I started lining the bed with pillows. HTH

we have our bed on a metal frame, and unless we do decide to put it on the floor, i think we'll push it up against the wall and use rails too. wehaven't needed to do anything yet, since our littlest is only 3mos and our oldest is almost 4 years. good luck figuring it out too.

We have a metal frame. The bed is pushed into the corner so the head and side are against walls; DH takes the third side and the fourth is partially bound by a dresser. DS sleeps either between me and the wall (the bed is pushed tight, not even space enough to stick a finger between) or between me and DH. The two upsides of this arrangement are that 1)DH has a bad back and has trouble getting out of bed in the morning if it is too low - this makes it so he can kind of roll himself upright - and 2)the kids can't just climb up there while they're playing in the bedroom.

We bought a safety rail. DD sleeps on me, usually (she's 5 months), and altough she has never even come close to falling- I sleep holding her- we didn't want to take chances. After reading recently about a baby falling out of a bed and the tragic consequences, I decided it was high time to make the sleeping situation even safer.

Just last night we side-carred her crib, with the crib against the wall and our bed against the crib. It just basically made our bed bigger/safer for her. She still slept in our actual bed, but on her back next to me for the first time. She did great.

We finally put our bed frame back on our bed, but not until ds turned 4 1/2 or so. We probably could've done it sooner but someone ripped ours off when we left it outside our storage.
: Anyway we have carpet, I would worry if it was hard floors...I would get a bedrail if you've got a baby in there. Fisher Price makes a pretty decent one for $20 or so.
