We are going to be going through the Home School Assistance Program one of the local districts offers.

It is laid back, no schedules...You can do as many or as few classes as you want. They are all "extra" classes like music and art. We toured the place and it was so laid back. Kids in class while their parents mingled outside chatting.

Iowa homeschool laws are a bit stringent, so this will help me in avoiding having to find a supervising teacher or making a portfolio or the evil standardized testing (ick).

Anyone else?

Actually you do still have a supervising teacher with HSAP-they are assigned to you instead of you getting to pick which makes me a bit leary.
And technically they CAN make you test if they feel it's warranted-whatever that means. The tests don't get turned in anywhere but are for your records.
I assume you're either in the CR or Marion HSAP?
There is an Iowa HS yahoo group with a few people in these here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/homeschool-Iowa/
They've been great at answering questions.

This is another helpful site that talks about HSAP:
http://www.the-niche.org/

And it looks like your oldest will be 5 tomorrow right? You technically don't have to sign her up if you don't want until 1st grade. Compulsary age is 6 on or before Sept 15 of the school yr. Just FYI
