Anyone else anemic?

I broke down and went ahead with the glucose test my practitioner was pushing, even though I knew I was going to be fine. But what they did find is I am anemic. No big surprise there, I never pass the test when I go to donate blood either.

So anyone else anemic? Other than being a little extra tired, I don't think it's anything to worry about, right?

Is it iron deficiency anemia, or vit. B? For iron deficient, I believe it's supposed to increase risk of hemorrhage and will disqualify you from a homebirth. Not sure on the Vit. B.
hmmm, do you think they could tell me if I called the office and asked which kind it was?
Oh I'm sure they could. If it's either, there are nutritional things you can do to fix it too.
two words: liquid chlorophyll.
honestly, it's the wonder non-drug for upping iron levels. and it doesn't constipate like pretty much every other iron source. and it's not expensive like floradix. and best of all you get dark green poo.
what could be better than that?
I was low in iron and Bs(particularily B12). I have so much more energy now! I'm just doing nutritional things but I'm so peppy now(I even recently started running again!). I highly recommend fixing it.

Yes, as I posted (I think) on the weekly thread, I failed my glucose test AND was told I have really low iron. The iron tabs they have here (in Sweden) don't constipate you, but you do get that other aforementioned fun feature!!

Someone posted that it's typical going from the 2nd to 3rd trimester, but since I'm having a c/s, I'm going to keep on the iron so my blood clots! My husband takes floradix and really likes it, but the b-vites in it would be too much in addition to my prenatals.
It does raise your risk of hemorrage after the birth. But also, if it goes to low means your baby gets less oxygen during pregnancy.

How anemic are you? Like do you know your numbers?

I've been using Floradix (can't get liquid chlorphyll here) and my iron has been higher in this twin pregnancy than it's been in either of my previous 2 singleton pregnancies. That stuff works!
I was told my iron level was 115 and at 110 they start to recommend a supplement. So in the meantime I'm to make sure I eat lots of iron rich foods. I might look into this Liquid Chlorophyll....
I don't know my numbers. I bought the liquid chlorophyll last night. had it the am, not so great tasting, but not terrible either. I think I can get used to it. If not I may just add it to a protein shake.

I have always been anemic. It's not too bad when I'm taking my vitamins and I've been good about it lately. During our cross country move, I wasn't taking them regularly and I felt the effects of it.
I also tested slightly anemic. Didn't get my #s. I use an iron supplement daily. Doesn't constipate me because I have been blessed with wonder bowels. It's definitely helped my energy level.

I had a friend so anemic she had pica and wanted to chew ice all the time. Then her baby was anemic and had to go on iron supplements. But that was a pain because the baby hated it and she spit it out and she would end up with rust stains on her clothes.
I put the liquid chlorophyll in a protein shake with some blueberries today. couldn't even tell it was there.

i tested anemic as well but i had guessed i would.

for 2 weeks prior i felt horrible- so tired i could barely scrape myself up of the floor. i remember giving dd a bath and having to call dh in to finish it because i couldn't keep my eyes open and was about to lay down on the floor which i figured was probably a BAD idea- esp w/ a 21 mo old.

I started taking floradix and i feel so much better!! the stuff is amazing. it is expensive, but you can find it for a much better price online.

does the liquid chlorophyl really work just as well?

eta my iron was at 90 something and this was after 4 days of floradix. is that pretty low?

Yes, I've been told I'm "severely anemic" (whatever that means) with a hematocrit level of 27 (I think it should be around 10 points higher some online sources have said). Here's a thread I started in the Homebirth forum if you'd like to read any of the helpful suggestions and advice that people have offered to me: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=691187

I've just started my 31st week, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my levels will go up so I can have the homebirth I've been longing for..

Good luck to you and take care,
joy

Not to crash your group (I'm due in September), can I ask how the floradix tastes? It looks like a serving size is only 2 tsp, which isn't too much at least. I've been incredibly tired, but have horrible insomnia, and my midwives yesterday said that if it doesn't improve this week, it might be an iron problem.

The liquid chlorophyll doesn't look tasty either, but you probably don't need much of it, right? If you had to choose between the two, is there one that more people prefer?

Thanks!
I've only done the chlorophyll and the severing size is 1 TBSP, it's not great tasting, but I pout it in a protein shake with berries and couldn't taste it at all.

Someone who has done the floradix can help you with that.
