I like beads, & I like swapping things!

Yes, I am SUPER excited because I make jewelry from vintage beads (1940s-1950s Czech, English, Japanese, etc.). I have LOTS of pretty ones.

I don't really know how this works, but I'm excited nonetheless.

...not yet, but I could be! Our awesome local bead store just expanded, and I'd love a good, DH-proof excuse to check it out.

Ooh ooh ooh! Ditto!!!!
We have The Beaded Nomad, a real bohemian type shop and then another mainstream shop -- The Red Bead maybe I think -- that I haven't visited.

I am SO afraid to start beading. I might never stop myself.

Here's the thread that Oct '07 started that should answer alot of questions. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...highlight=bead

(I think I can post this without being a UA violation, right?)

Arrgh the Trading Post! You have to be exactly six months or longer and 150 posts strong before you can even be allowed in. I have a delirious number of posts but won't be let in for MONTHS.

I saw the post and I love the idea! What's this about the trading post? I've never ventured over there.

So who wants to be the organizer? :

I guess we can't do it directly on the boards - would it be done by pm or by starting a yahoo group or email?

I so love the whole idea of a bead swap.

I think the majority of people end up starting a Yahoo Group because of the Trading Post requirements. We can't even do swaps in our DDC.

I don't think it wouldn't be too hard to organize really.

I say we wait till all of us are out of the 1st trimester to be on the safe side. Once that happens we'll need to figure out how many people are participating. That'll give us the number of beads we each need to purchase.

From there I think it would be easiest to mail your choosen beads to the organizer and then she'll sort them out and mail them back - instead of each one of us mailing a single bead to everyone else. It'll save postage, which just went up too, huh? Maybe we could all Paypal the organizer for shipping costs once she figures out how much it'll be to mail the beads back? I dunno, am I making this too complicated?

I think it'll be so neat to have a reminder of all the other mamas who are going through the same thing while I'm in labor.

What a neat idea! A Yahoo Group sounds perfect, and has good security settings for all our private information like addresses.

I can't wait!
