Hello...

I'm better now...but last week I was really bummed about not passing my 1 hour and 3 hour GTT. My MW wants me to really watch my sugar/carb intake and I'll be monitering my glucose levels frequently.

I was really surprised because I don't really have any "risk" factors and am gaining wait slow but sure. I've read Goer's article and wondering if I should have refused taking these tests..but now that I did...I'm somewhat obligated to follow through.

My questions are...what are you doing about your diet, excercise and glucose levels? Any natural supplements you are taking? I found out cinammon and chromium may be helpful. Is your practitioner labeling you high risk?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!!

I didn't do the tests, instead my mw had me check my bs levels for a week myself using a borrowed monitor. The levels were bad, so I started adjusting my eating myself before my week was up. I cut out almost all refined carbs - white flour, sugar, white rice. My mw reviewed the log I kept, which had my food journal and my bs readings, and asked that I keep monitoring for a while. She isn't keen on saying anything about high risk yet, since she could see that I was able to control it with diet.

I'm in my 3rd week of self-monitoring now and finding that as long as I eat some good protein, I can handle a little bit of bad stuff. For example the other night for dinner I had sweet & sour chicken with brown rice. I went easy on the sauce, and because of the protein and the brown rice my bs level was great afterward.

I was freaking out a little about my "high" levels, but after reading the Goer article, both DH and I calmed down a lot. I just don't understand why in pregnancy we're held to more restricted blood sugar levels than the general population. I'm beginning to think it's just one more way to medically manage us preggos.

Could someone please post a link to the Goer article?

Its almost time for me to refuse the test. This is the 3rd time I've refused it but the problem is I can't exactly ever remember why I did the last time. I feel it important to be informed and to be able to intelligently discuss it with my midwife. Therefore its time for me to research it again! Ugh, I don't feel like it because I'm sure I'll reach the same conclusion! Being an informed particpant in health care can be so much work.

tsfairy, thanks for your input. That is the article I was referring to. Wonder if my MW read it!

I'm not going to let this stress me out...I'm going to just watch things a little closer and see what is suggested when I see her again on Friday.

Ah glad it was the right one. It was a real eye-opener for me and DH. I think my MW has probably read it since she really doesn't seem terribly concerned about GD, but I'm bringing a copy when I see her Friday
