Over the past couple of months I've had at least 4 Mamas PM me saying they want something and will be sending payment then never do. I always PM kindly after a few days asking to be sure they still intend to buy.... and if I don't hear back from them... I send another kind PM asking for communication... still I am left what feels like, ignored. Especially because all of these Mamas had been posting here at MDC...just not responding to me.

(I've had bad luck with swappers and communication, lately, too.)

I am ALWAYS understanding of a Mama and why she may change her mind on a purchase... I am ALWAYS understanding of a Mama who hasn't been at MDC for personal reasons and hasn't read PMs... I understand things in life happen, and always keep that in mind. I'm a patient Mama, really I am.

I sell here at the TP likely for the same reason that many of us do... to bring in some money to help my family live more comfortably from month to month. I would really appreciate a fellow Mama respecting that by communicating with me until a sale is complete or void. While I'm holding items for people who aren't responding to PMs, I could be selling them to those who will complete a transaction quickly.

Am I the only one experiencing this here lately?

(Mods...if this belongs in TAO, I apologize... feel free to move it on over.

I've never been in this situation, as a buyer or a seller... however, I have had one interesting situation as a buyer. I sent a OM offering to buy two items, and shortly thereafter saw the items marked as "pending". But I never received a PM back from her. I shot her another message saying, I see you marked them "pending" right after I PMed you, but I never received a message from you. Clarify for me, are you holding them for me? Turns out she *had* PMed me, but I never received the message! Thankfully, we got back on track easily enough just because I was observant... So, maybe this issue of PMs disappearing into the ether is getting more common? Although, if you're PMing them multiple times, that seems less likely...

YES! It happened twice for me this past month...
One of the times I held an item for a mama who said she wanted it FOR SURE while there were aother mama also interested behind her. Well, the first mama walked off the deal 3 days later. When I went to offer the item to the second mama she had already found a similar item somewehre else

Just wondering... does that qualify as a negative "buyer feedback"??

Most of my experiences at the TP have been very good but I too have had a couple of moms who haven't responded to my PMs (being buyer & seller). I agree changing your mind is ok, just let me know! I always check to see if my PM's have been read first. If they have ,then there is no reason why the mom just cant send a brief message back, like no thanks, changed my mind. I've done this myself, I've sent a pm saying sorry, not interested etc.

I hear you though some common sense courtesy at the TP would be appreciated, but like in life there will always be people who are rude.

I have not been getting some messages here, on a few different occasions... and I have sent messages that have never made it through to the other person.

I do agree with Lori though, 24hrs, - 48hrs at the most.

Actually, this happens a lot.

Maybe we need to start posting disclaimers in the post letting everyone know that if we don't hear back from them in a set amount of time, we'll sell it to the next interested party.

I've had it happen where I waitied 3 days for someone to PM me back and I didn't hear from them until they just decided to up and pay. I refunded the money and they got all pissy, but Hey! I get no response from you and you want me to wait indefinitely?? I don't think so.

You're right! I will start adding disclaimers too!
I am tired of being Mrs.Nice just to have people making me wait forever and then walk off on the deal

I had this happen to me, too. I had a mama say she was interested in something I was selling and she HAD to have it, but didn't have payment... could we trade? Well, I was willing to do that for her, even though I didn't really need anything she had, I thought I was being nice. We sent a bunch of PM's back and forth and then I heard nothing from her. I sent her another PM and still, nothing. Then awhiles later, she PM'd me and said she accidentally deleted a PM from me, could I resend it? So I resent it and I never heard from her again. That really irritated me... if you're not interested any longer, then let me know, at least! That incident turned me off to wanting to sell on the TP or make trades any longer.

And I thought I was the only one who made that experience!

I've been asked 3 times about certain items (strangely all the time for hair care [curling irons etc.] :LOL ) and after answering to the e-mails/PMs I never heard anything back anymore...
I just don't understand it. I mean, if you're suddenly not interested anymore, just tell me!..

I had this happen too!

Someone wanted something promised Money was inthe mail, after about a month or month and a half, I stopped hearing anything from her. First is was something came up, then they was sick, and so on...
Oh well.

I know things happen, and it doesn't make me to mad, I'm easy made mad, so I get over it.

I do think it's a great Idea to put something in the thread about a time limit. Just like you would on ebay.

I know that a couple of times lately I have really wanted something a mama has FS & have pm'ed he for her PP addy & then accidentally erased the pm & not remembered who I was buying something from~ I think it has to do w/my sleep deprivation, I normally pay right away. If I have done this to you please pm me, it was not intentional!

I try to be really understanding because I live overseas on an entirely different time zone from everyone, so I know sometimes my payments and messages are off from theirs.

I have also had a few PMs disappear, I just never received them when people said they sent them in the message.

However if it takes too long and I don't hear from them, I PM them and tell them I am going to the next person in line. Most people are cool with this

No, I don't think that this would qualify as Negative Feedback. I feel that the only time either a seller or buyer should leave neg. feedback is if an item was never paid for or the traded items were never recieved. Again, this would only be if the issue couldn't be resolved.
I sold on ebay for a few years...ALOT...and there is nothing worse that some "holier than thou" person who shots from the hip and leaves negative feedback...just to be an ass.
No, I don't like to be ripped off or feel shafted...but when it comes to money or items already exchanged....then that is something different.
Not because someone inquired about an item and never followed through. People are flakes....plain and simple.
I don't sell on the TP to "make" money...I do solely to clear out items of no use that are still in great condition. Of course I do love the funded paypal for when I just have to have something FS here on the TP...which nowadays is knitting stuff...

I have never left negative feedback - even though sometimes I should have. I just feel bad leaving negative feedback to a fellow mama and I am always assuming the best about people...

However, what I was wondering was:

The one thing that can make a buyer a "bad buyer" is them not paying. That is clear cut in an auction environment when a bid is a contract. However, the problem with a board like this is that a person inquiring about a product or going as far as "closing the deal" by promising to pay is NOT a contract. No transaction or contract has actually been completed so the flaky person is not actually a buyer... Is it even possible to leave negative buyer feedback when no transaction has actually taken place? What is the point of even having that option??

TP is not a means of making money for me either. The main reason I post on the TP is to sell diapers and slings that are not working for us in order so I can get PP funds to buy something that will. So yes - it is very irritating when someone asks me to hold an item and promises to pay (while there are 2 or 3 other mamas interested behind them) only to walk off the deal several days later.

I haven't had that situation happen to me, but I have to admit I have been disappointed with TP lately. In the past, I have always been more than pleased with purchases/trades made here. Lately, though, I have gotten the raw end of the deal several times.

Twice lately, I have purchased videos from mamas here. The first one came and was missing one of the videos. Then, another didn't work properly. Now, I did PM the seller, and she was more than nice about it and offered to refund my money, so that was cool, but I was still disappointed.

The second was a trade. I sent 2 VGC FB's for a video and a DVD. The package was not wrapped very well and the video was damaged beyond repair. The DVD was not in the original case, had none of the inserts and looked more like a promotional item to me (this was a yoga dvd and it says "Kellogg's" on the DVD). Not that I mind, but it wasn't mentioned and I felt slighted on my end of the deal.

So, I don't know if this was the right thread to post this to, but I have been wanting to ask if anyone has had the same type situations, and what you did about them, and this seemed to be the right post for that.

I once PMed someone saying I wanted Kefir grains but then it turned out that I didn't have the paypal funds. We never communicated after that.
I've had a few people say they wanted to trade and I sent them emails of the items and didn't get a response of no thanks if they didn't want anything.
