My 9 week old doesn't comfort nurse. If I offer the breast to comfort/calm her, she acts like I've offended her, LOL. But if I give her a paci and cuddle her, she settles right down.

I'm not concerned or anything, just curious if anyone else has encountered this. My first two were total boob babies so this is a new experience for me.

HA! I'm a one trick pony too, glad I'm not the only one. Although, for several weeks breastfeeding hurt like hell so I didn't *let* her comfort nurse. I know, I'm horrible. Turns out she likes sucking on my thumb, so we do that if need be.

Same here! It's been a learning experience, that's for sure!

Yep, same here. 5-10 minutes and she's done. And same on the weight gain. Her lowest weight after birth was 6,10 and she was 11,4 at her 2 month visit last week.

She's my first to take a paci. My other two simply wouldn't do it. I don't think I could survive without it this time around.

Funny how they're all so different.

I think it has to do with my fast flow as well. It takes her less than 10 minutes to eat and she's done. She used to choke and sputter but now she has adapted, but still she fills up and she's done. I don't think she enjoys it like my first did. He would spend hours happily suckling away at an empty breast.

My first didn't comfort nurse, but she loved her paci. This one doesn't comfort nurse either- she gets her milk in a few minutes and then she's done. But she won't take a paci, so if she gets upset I'm at a loss! I have a fast flow too...maybe we're onto something.

Neither of mine can or do comfort nurse. My son had reflux and I had oversupply, so that was a bad combo. My daughter is too little to deal with the fast flow of my oversupply and prefers the paci for comfort sucking (3 weeks). Neither of them comfort suck for very long though - it's suck, suck, suck and then out it goes! Perhaps oversupply teaches them to nurse quickly?

Me too. My first was a hard core comfort nurser, always on the boob, never refused a feed and would not have anything to do with the paci. My second is a drive through nurser, just gets the milk and is done in 5 minutes. She must be getting enough, she has cyclists thighs! And she loves her binky! She would rather have her binky and be swaddled and put down to go to sleep, while my first always, always nursed to sleep. They are so different.

Same here. DD was a comfort nurser, DS is not. In general he is a more settled baby, i.e., easier to soothe, cries less, etc. than big sister. DH said to me a few weeks ago that he wonders if DS will self wean early because he just isn't that into nursing - I cried.

My DD won't comfort nurse and won't take a paci. Also nurses in about 5-10 mins and is *done*. She has teeth now and if I try to offer when she's not hungry she likes to chew on the nipple. Not so much my idea of fun. She'll chew on other stuff though. But not a paci. Paci's are evil (according to her, I spent 3 months trying to get her to take one).

My 9 weeks old gets super pissed if I offer him the breast for comfort. I have a pretty strong letdown I think, even when Im fairly "empty" and he is just furious when milk comes out! So there are usually one or two times a day when nothing but the paci will do and Im ok with that. It doesnt seem to have affected my supply and even though he is tongue tied, his latch is as good as it ever was.

Just be careful not to use it too much, I think pacis can kind of suck people in because theyre so easy...
