OK, I go back and forth between loving these diapers and getting frustrated with them. With my older son, if he sits with his legs crossed or similar, they often don't hug his inner thighs and the leak. I have them fastened fairly tightly, but they still seem to gap sometimes. I bought the XL for the higher rise, but it's the same thing. Bum Genius always hug tighter, but I can't really afford to just switch all my diapers. Is your elastic tight enough on these? Are they just not tight enough? (though I don't think I could fasten them tighter...)

yes yes yes!

I bought all my FBs used, so I don't know why they might vary in quality...but I've noticed that they do!

Our white ones seemed older/more used but work great and have held up well all this time, while our lavendar one's elastic completely stretched out within a couple of months so now there are zero gathers. My dd can't wear it at all...we've put it away in case she needs it for a "large" size later.

yeah, new ones have been fine but older ones i've encountered often have stretched out elastic. i don't know if this is a problem exclusive to fb, or whether it's just what happens to elastic over time and many washes.

My FBs haven't given me any trouble with the elastic. I used my mediums for months, until ds outgrew them. They've been throuh countless washings, sunnings and even the dryer. Now we are in size large the mediums are put away for sale later or trade. They're in great shape.

Our new large size dipes are still too new to judge the wear and tear. We've only been in them for about 2 months and I have a large rotation so they're not getting much use.

I bought mine new though. We've only been using them for a few months. I figured they wanted to avoid tight elastic that could pinch, and so you're supposed to relay on fastening them tight enough. But I do fasten them pretty tight. We go long stretches with no problem, but then sometimes when he's just in his diaper I notice it when he's sitting down that it's gaping open around his crotch.. This morning it leaked on the couch.

THe first set of FBs I had were great for 18 months (in a small rotation too!) and then the elastic totally gave up. Which, that was fine for me...18 months of use with hot washes and dries is a lot to deal with. Elastic by nature eventually gives in to heat and stretching.

But, with the newer ones I have I've noticed that they don't hug very well at all. Even though the elastic is in perfect shape... I still get gaping and leaking around the leg holes constantly They're still my most absorbant dipes, but the leaking is driving me nuts. I think it might just be a fit issue. My guys thighs aren't very chubby at all.

When it comes to the elastic I think that MOE's quality control is next to nothing. I have had a few dipes that fit fair, but most are sooooo loose that leaking is a normal routien (I bought these new!!)!!

I use the smalls with almost no problems then when dd was ready for the meds. they gaped like crazy.

Have any of you though of opening up one end by the elastic and tightening it then resewing it? Now I know this shouldn't have to be done when you pay $14-$15 per dipe, but I am just wondering.
