My OB (the love of my life right at this moment (just kidding)) prescribed Phenergan for me cause I'm always barfing. Love the lovely phenergan.... It does, however, have an extreme sedative effect on me. I'm zonked by 10PM. Can't always get it together in the morning, either. However, I'm not tossing my cookies. That's a good thing, since I was loosing weight. I guess Seven of Seven will be okay now....(a friend of mine calls the baby seven of seven) for all you trekkie fans out there....

ask your OB about zofran instead. it's a newer anti-nausea drug that has less side effects. i've heard reports here of moms on it, too. my dad has taken it and it doesn't knock him out at all like the phenergan did.

hth and good luck

I was on phenergran from weeks 7-10, it helped, but really knocked me out. I asked to try something else since I was so tired and put on Reglan - which did squat for me, a couple days later I was in the hospital for IV rehydration.
After that I was put on Zofran and found that I needed a preventative one every am until about week 22!! I was on the 'worse of than most' end of the scale, for most it tapers of quickly at 12-14 weeks.

Anyway, I also know someone that was started off on Zofran and it didn't do a darned thing! She then tried phenergran and it worked like magic!

so, long story short, it really is very individual what may work. I hope you can get it straighted out soon!

My last preg I was on Phenergan for a couple months and because it's a mild tranquilizer, I was beat all the time too. I did still barf while taking that though (suppository you keep in the fridge- how cruel!). Later (around 16 wks) I couldn't stand it anymore and asked for zofran, which did work a bit better for me.

This time I'm on Unisom (doxylamine succinate) and it works better to relieve the nausea/vomiting. I might throw up once a week or so now, rather than 5x a day. And at 17 wks, I'm kinda used to the tiredness, I guess. The first 12 wks or so when y ou have that horrible first trimester fatigue, compounded with sleeping pills/tranquilizers makes you useless and crabby, but it's so much better than needing to be on an IV for rehydration (been there, done that...).

Hang in there.... at least it won't last longer than the pregnancy!!

I was on phenergan with my first pregnancy and found the sedating effect annoying so I started cutting the pills in half to see if they would work as well. They did so I tried cutting them in quarters and taking a quarter of a pill every four hours. I felt great, no fatigue or nausea, but the key was that I had to take it every four to six hours so I couldn't forget to take the one overnight. See if you can get away with cutting them in half, it made a big difference in fatigue for me.
