hi all.

been a while since i've 'connected' with the new site and all. anyhow, at my last 2 apts. my midwife says i'm measuring a little small---she doesn't seem concerned (i'm on the petite side as well-5'3 100 lbs pre pregnancy--but i've gained 30+ lbs and am still gaining! so i don't get why i'm measuring small!!)

just curious since this is numero uno for me! should i be eating ice cream every day/every meal?

Well, I'm far from petite, 5'9" and 160 pre-preggo and I've been measuring small at different points throughout my pregnancy. It could be your torso size. I also have another girlfriend who is about your size and she is measuring small too and hardly looked pregnant when I saw her at 6.5 months. But, if you've gained 30lbs, then it's not you and your eating, it's probably just how your body is, so don't sweat it. If your midwifie is really concerned, then she can do an US to check his/her growth, but, I would chalk this up to normal human variation and nice genes. Two of my other girlfriends also measured small last year when they had their healthy babies, although both are about my height. But, 30lb weight gain is nothing to sneeze at, so i wouldn't worry.

I am measuring small too - 34 at my 36 week appointment this past Tuesday. I am 5'6" and was ~112 lbs before I got pregnant, so I was a bit underweight. I've gained 35 lbs and my midwives are suggesting that I shouldn't gain much more, but I figure as long as I'm eating healthy foods, I"ll continue to eat as much as I feel is appropriate!

I just had my 36 weeks appointment and am still measuring 32 weeks (same as last visit). MW didn't seem concerned and I can definitely tell I am growing. I am on the thin side and don't really seem to be on the mark at the end of pregnancy.

I've been measuring small off and on during the last 8 weeks or so - usually about 1-2 weeks behind. My MW said if I got any more behind we'd do an ultrasound to check, but I haven't ever gotten to that point. I'm also very petite - 5'5 and 110 lbs before pregnancy and I have gained almost 40 lbs now at 38 weeks. My MW said she expects me to measure a little behind because of that anyway. I'm trying not to worry about it.

Thanks for this thread. I am six feet and 160 pre-preggers. I have gained 11 pounds and consistently measure small, sometimes by 4 weeks, other times by 1 week. I really freaked out at one point and did a bunch of research re: this topic. I have come to learn that a 2 week variation on either side is normal. I have also come to learn this is not a very accurate assessment tool and there are parts of the world where this tool can't be used at all, d/t pelvic shape variations, like in Africa. I feel calm about it all now, with the 4 week small measurement the baby was more lateral than vertical positioned which will affect your fundal height. I also have a long torso, obviously. I don't want to do any u/s and my provider knows this and is supportive. She has come to conclude there is really no way to determine how big this kid is but I look pregnant although my weight gain isn't huge. Time will tell. Anyway, my point is, I wouldn't worry. I think are intuition is heightened during this time and if we tune in then we know if something is wrong and needs further testing. I feel everything is alright. Just check in with yourself. Excited to share birth weights some day!!

I have measured small this entire pregnancy. Usually by at least 2 weeks; sometimes by 3. My last appointment at 35 weeks, I measured 33, which is the biggest I've measured so far. I've gained 25.5 pounds, and my midwives are not remotely concerned about the measuring or the weight. I was 5'7" and 135 pre pregnancy, and very muscular. I am sooooo curious to see how big this baby is, though! I know that how you measure has nothing to do with how big the baby is, but I'm still curious.

At my 32 week sonogram, the kid was measuring 33-34 weeks (esp the head...GINORMOUS HEAD!!). I kind of freaked out on the inside

At my 33 week prenatal appointment, my fundal height was 31 cm. I stopped freaking out.

About a week after that, the scale told me I gained at least 3 lbs.

When I weighed myself a few days ago, I had mysteriously lost those 3 lbs.

I've just decided to not pay much attention to numbers anymore and focus on, well, everything else! ;)
