We are keeping this pregnancy pretty low-key, and I'm not planning on doing any ultrasounds, or blood screenings for abnormalities.

So far I've just done the basic bloodwork (iron, rubella anitbodies, etc) and am undecided whether or not I'll do any later screenings other then to re-check blood iron.

I had u/s with my first two, and both times they thought something was wrong (low amniotic fluid with #1 which was disproved in birth and a brain structure abnormality with #2 which ended up being and meaning nothing). The more I read about ultrasound safety, the less I'm convinced it's safe. I know it has just caused me a lot of anxiety in the past that was pointless.

Now, if there seems to be a medical reason for me having one, I will (though I will try to have as quick and as low-powered of a scan as I can). But I'm not choosing to have any on my own.

Anyone else?

I'm planning on doing the 20 week scan (just to see the gender really) but that's it. No other tests either besides the basic bloodwork which my midwife hasn't even done yet.

It will financially make sense for us to find out the gender since I kept EVERYTHING of my daughter's. Or else I probably wouldn't even get that scan done.

Naomi, I'm doing exactly the same as you. Did the regular prenatal blood testing as you mentioned, and that's it. No other screening and no u/s this time (I did both with my other two and never had any anomalies).

Glad to hear I'm not the only one

With all the threads on u/s, I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who had chosen not too!

I am on the fence about it. I already canceled the NT US I had scheduled a few weeks ago.

My reasoning is a bit different, I don't want to get attached to this pregnancy for fear or loss (as in not going home with a baby). But at the same time, I want at least a picture of the baby in case we do have a loss.

I did one at 6 weeks due to some bleeding, which seemed reasonable to me... I felt like that was actually a medical need situation.

But I won't do another one unless I need to- I'm really hoping nothing else happens that convinces me I should!

We were planning on none as well, like the pp, unless there was some *reason* too..

Well, my intuition very strongly told me to check on this baby (a very specific, morbid thought I've never had in my other 3 pregnancies)... so I have a u/s in about an hour

If I'd had any bleeding (or do have any bleeding in the future) or was dealing with previous losses, I'm sure I'd probably choose differently as well.

I just think in general ultrasounds are greatly overused, though I know at times they can be necessary. I'm just hoping one never becomes necessary for me this time around!

No u/s here either (unless it becomes necessary for some reason). Until there's research stating that 1) u/s improves outcomes and/or 2) u/s does not pose any risk to the fetus, we will not be getting one.

No, I'm not doing any. Didn't with dd (3.5) either. We had a homebirth then and are planning another. I just go on faith! And my midwife's advice. If she advised it I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Barring that, though, I don't see any reason to do it.

Best wishes to you!
