BFAR stands for Breastfeeding After Reduction (after breast reduction surgery).<br><br>
mollysmommybrett - you should check out our Low Milk Supply Tribe - you'll find the thread here in the breastfeeding forum. How are you supplementing? I've been using an SNS for 9 months!

we supplement with formula. i know my mom had supply issues, i just give her whatever she'll take with BM and then she has formula the rest. its at least half BM though. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up">

Hello! Nice to meet you. I am BFARing too. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> Aviva is 7 months old, and now that she is taking some solids, we've been able to eliminate the lact-aid (finally!).<br><br>
Have you checked out the BFAR forums? <a href="http://www.bfar.org" target="_blank">www.bfar.org</a> Lots of helpful and supportive mamas there.<br><br>
Congratulations on getting to six months and beyond! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"> I know what a huge struggle it is. Go mama!

Hello! And congratulations to all the bfar mamas! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I'm also a low-supply & supplemented mama, tho my issues were unrelated to a breast reduction. Low-supply is a hard row to hoe- & it sounds like you all are doing a great job! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"><br><br>
Here's a link to our tribe thread. It's long (it's been going a while), but you'll find that we are very supportive, & have a lot of collective experience amongst us when it comes to low-supply/supplementing issues. Also, I should add that becasue the thread is long, sometimes questions get missed, & then you have to post them more than once. hth! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br><a href="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=119922" target="_blank">http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=119922</a>

And isn't it such a good feeling to be able to prove the docs wrong on one of their absolute proclamations! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"><br><br>
I think your story shows, once again, how truly individual breastfeeding is, & how individual women's bodies are when it comes to milk production. It's an area that needs heaps more research, imo.

Congratulations Brett <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"> I have low supply too, not sure why, but so far we've lasted 7 months and I'm hoping to regain my determination to make it a full year <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/innocent.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="shy">. It is wonderful for you and your darlin son that you have proved the docs wrong! Each time I hear that a mamma has beaten the odds that a medical professional has given her, I am full of <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin"> and feel like I want to <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/bouncy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="bouncy"> off the walls!!<br><br>
Again, congratulations!!

Hey, congrats! I'm BF after a one-sided mastectomy, so I guess that's a "reduction" <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"> . I've often cruised the BFAR web site, they have good info for all low-milk supply moms.

mollysmommybrett,<br>
I'm not a BFAR mom but I did read, "Defining Your Own Success / BFAR" because I had supply issues. It reminded me that my problems were manageable and the stories of women who overcame greater issues than mine were inspirational.<br><br>
From what I remember a lot of reduction surgeons think of BF'ing as all or nothing so it is very typical for them to say BF'ing won't be possible, even if it would otherwise be possible with supplementation.<br><br>
Congratulations, and thanks to you and all BFAR moms --including MaryJaneLouise-- for serving as an example.<br><br>
