I want to enter a photograph in the Alaska State Fair, but the website, well, sucks, and the one time I found a little section about entering things it basically said, "Come out at the time for entering in this exhibit and do it!" But I want to know if there are restrictions, such as what size of photo print I should bring, whether it should be framed, if graphic enhancement is frowned upon, etc.

Anybody have experience with this? Either photography or any other exhibit? It's probably my residual Lower 48 need for a little structure, and if I just show up with something nice in hand it'll all work out fine like most things in this state. But, you know. Thought I'd ask.

I have entered items in the Delta Fair but that was easy and you are pretty much gonna win something since the population is so low. LOL
but it was fun.

I have not entered anything in a LARGE fair like Anchorage or Fairbanks. Heck after living in Alaska 12 years, I have only even been to the Fairbanks Fair one time. (I dont like crowds)

Wow, thanks Donna! Somehow I couldn't find a thing on that website. Maybe it doesn't like Firefox.

Excellent, I'm on my way.

Here's my cool photo by the way. It was totally chance with a crappy camera, but I'm proud nonetheless. http://bp2.blogger.com/_YO9I1QzmVKQ/...DSCN0604-1.JPG

We enter stuff in the fair every year. The kids usually get a few bucks and they love seeing their stuff up with other peoples' stuff.

Photo entries are trickier than other things, glad MaDonna found that link for you! They're pretty strict about having them backed and fixed and so forth.

/entering is free, and fun, and you can enter just about anything...this year is a huge Lego contest. And the theme is "Pirates of the Carrots and Beans." Or something to that effect.

I entered a HUGE blooming rare type African Violet. I left water and instructions for care (was told to do that). I dropped it off on the first day. When I went to pick it up, other contestants had pushed it into a back corner, broken off large branches... it was nearly dead both from the neglect and from the bad treatment by other contestants. It had not been judged at all.

Let's just say I was pretty peaved. I wrote a letter of complaint to the board- but they basically said they could not control the actions of other contestants.. yeah but what about what the fair itself failed to do? How can they expect people to drop off living things and then left them get trampled like that? How can they tell someone to leave instructions for care and then not follow through?

That was a few years ago, but I would still be pretty careful. You don't want someone "accidentally" ripping your photo or something..
