Hi all. I posted this on the TTC board as well but thought you may know better.

I had a miscarriage a month-ish ago (first pregancy, at 12w, sac had formed but nothing developped) and while I've been told to not try again until you get your period back to normal....we *may* have done it unprotected a few times. Not that we were trying but you know what I mean.

But, I've been reading places that say you should not try at ALL until your period returns. Is there a reason other than the fact that you wont have an accurate due date? Or is there something else?

Thanks in advance!

I did.

In the summer of 2001 I found I was pregnant mid-June. On July 26th I had a natural miscarriage at home. On August 30th I went to my OB's office for an ultrasound to make sure that the miscarriage was complete and that everything had returned to normal - and that is when we found out that I was again pregnant! Turns out I got pregnant exactly 2 weeks after my miscarriage (we went to a wedding that night - guess I was feeling better huh?). I did take prometrium for the first trimester because my progesterone was a bit low (they were concerned that low progesterone might have been the reason for my miscarriage) but I now have a wonderfully healthy 4 year old DD!

My Dr. told me after I confirmed my pregnancy that generally it is okay for women who have had early miscarriages to get pregnant before their period returns and that generally your body will not get pregnant before it is ready.

i did also. i agree w/ the statement that your body generally won't get pg unless it is ready. i had a m/c at 12.5 wks and had af 2x until i o'd then i got pg and lost that baby at 6 wks then was pg again before af arrived. I think we conceived 4 wks after my m/c. I am 24 wks pg and so far everything is going well. i have heard they have you wait to accurately date the pg.

I really think they tell you that for two reasons. First, it gives you a little more time to heal emotionally, second it makes it a lot easier to estimate a due date. My doctor said I could try again whenever I wanted to. We started right away and got pregnant that cycle (no period between). They had to do an early ultrasound to determine the due date but it was no big deal. They would have had to do that anyway if I were one of the many women who don't chart and don't know the date of their last period. I think it gives a more accurate date anyway since not everyone ovulates on day 14!

Good luck! I hope you get a sticky BFP very soon!!!

Edited to add: That pregnancy was successful! It resulted in my almost 6 month old little boy!

I am in the same situation. We were not so carefull either, but you never know when you are going to ovulate after a m/c. I am just awaiting the return of my cycle at this point. Last time the same thing happened and at 5 weeks I took a test that was pos., but the dr said it was from the prev pg. This time I made sure that I took a test that would be before a pg test could be pos, that way I know it's not "left over" because I had a neg test in between. After my 2nd m/c I was told the reason to wait is because your lining needs to build back up, if it doesn't implantation may not be able to take place. I am still on the line, I don't know what is the solution. I figure now if I am pg again already (although I am starting to rule that out) I am ready, if I have yet another mc, I will have to deal with it and will probably beat myself up. All I know is God is with me and everything happens for a reason. I hope! Best wishes to you.

MEEE!
I miscarried in July at 5 weeks. Now I"m six weeks along with another one. No period in between. My doc and my midwife both said there was no reason to wait a cycle before trying... if my body was ready to ovulate again, it was ready for pregnancy again.

Not really. The due date combined with the fact that drs don't like having nervous patients calling them up with every little bit of spotting, scared that they're having a repeat.

I researched the hell out of this right after I had a blighted ovum at 8 weeks. The drs, of course, wanted to do a D&C (actually, they didn't believe it was a blighted ovum, choosing instead to tell me my dates were just off, but then when just an hour after seeing the empty sac on the u/s, my body released all matters of conception, THAT was when they wanted to schedule the D&C). I refused. I'm glad I did.

If you've had a D&C you should wait to allow the lining to build back up and heal. But otherwise, you are fine to TTC right after a m/c. After losing that pg, I so wanted to get pg again. I knew precisely when I was ovulating and we got pg exactly three weeks after my m/c. No problems. Well, except well meaning family and friends who instead of congratulatiing us asked dumb questions like, "ARen't you supposed to wait after a m/c?" and "So soon?"

Anyway, don't worry about it at all. If you are, it was meant to be!

My older brother is the result of that exact thing. Mom tells me she used the date of the D&C as her LMP for the purpose of dating the pg (this was in the days before u/s!!) This was back in the Stone Age (1970-1971) and he's fine.

af= "aunt flow"= menstrual period.

haha, okay thanks. i think i have figured out the rest of the lingo for the most part. back to the subject at hand, i was told that "day 1" of your cycle for miscarriages is the day your hcg returns to normal, but i didn't go get another test since i was positive of miscarriage, so i cannot pinpoint the exact day of conception. we think it was nov. 18. either way the diff could only be by a few days. i am going this week to get an hcg level test so i will know what to expect...hopefully it will be at least 1000!

Yep, twice over. Rowan was stillborn at 24 weeks on October 1st, and Isaac was born on August 23rd, no period in between. That was back in 99/00. Then this one, I got several positive tests in April, miscarried again (we think?) and then conceived again immediately. Baby and I have both been measuring consistently 10 days to 2 weeks ahead on ultrasound and by fundal height measurements, so who knows what happened?

I got pregnant right after my m/c with no AF in between. I had my D&E on 9/24/07. At my 2-week follow-up my OB said we could start TTC again so we did. I o'ed on 10/23 (know this because I was charting BBT) and am now going on 8 weeks pregnant. I heard the heartbeat last week and so far so good.

all the best to you!
I also had a m/c right before I conceived my twins, no period in between. I have read that some women are extra fertile after a m/c and there is an increased rate of twins then (I had no other "risk factors" for twins).

I had lost a baby on week before Christmas 2007. AF has not come back and I have taken a positive pg test. This will be our third child if I am able to carry it. I am very nervous because the loss was only a month ago. I go to the DR on 2-25-08 and will know for sure if I am pg. I will post something when I know more.

I had a miscarriage on August 27 (my third wedding anniversary) and today is September 19, three and a half weeks ago I had a D&C and I just tested positive on a pregnancy test. It was my first pregnancy and I was devastated. I find out Monday if it's for real or just leftovers. I'm really scared and nervous.
