I usually alternate between Tide and Gain for my diapers. I always use powdered...so it lasts a long time.

Well, I ran out of Gain and I saw that Arm and Hammer Fabricare was on sale. It has baking soda in it, so I figured I would give it a try.

Now for the FIRST TIME EVER...my diapers are stinking a bit! : I'm baffled!!!

Could it be the detergent??? : :

I use Arm and Hammer Fabricare Free and Clear. I do have some stink problems, but only from my hemp, and I had the same with the purex I was using before. Hopefully some one else will be able to help.

Arm and Hammer is all I use on my diapers. I have used it from day one and never had any stink issues. Maybe the scent of the tide you are used to (evil evil tide)
Gain is also very smelly as far as purfumes go

yeah, smelled a bit like they weren't getting very clean. Also, I just didn't like the smll of the detergent itself. Not that I need it to smell like flowers or anything (cause my son's skin can't handel purfumes and dyes) but it just smelled a bit weird to me, a bit off... I dunno lol
So i switched detergents. I've tryed many, many detergents. And so far I like my current one best. All free clear. It does'nt irrate my son's skin, it has a soft fresh smell, and it seems to rinse out cleaner (ya know, no bulid up)

Just make sure you are not using it on pockets

Thanks for the feedback.

The kind I am using is the free and clear kind- unscented. I always use Tide Free too (why is Tide evil???). Gain does have a scent- and I like it. I can't use ALL because my son is allergic to it and breaks out everywhere!

Okay, I guess I will just use it on our clothing (or even return it) and go buy my tried-and-true Gain!

Thanks.

I use a small amt of Tide Free on my dipes along with a Borax soak. The Tide gets them clean and the Borax keeps them stink free.

However, some diaper covers, such as Fuzzi Bunz and Happy Heinys, do not do well with natural detergents because the oils in these detergents can cause the water-resistant fabrics to leak. So check with the instructions on washing your diaper covers before choosing your detergent. And if you should ever notice your diapers not absorbing like they should, or your covers not repelling like they should, you may need to strip your diapers. You should probably try another brand of detergent after you have stripped your diapers and covers.

We've used A&H Fabricare for 2+ years... CD'ing since March... I do strip them once a month or so, but mostly to make sure I don't have any huge buildup. No stink though.

It could also be the chemistry of the detergent with your water - it's different everywhere.

Yes that is right. I know soft/hard water has a lot to do with stink.

Eeek! That IS scary! No wonder my sensitive guy breaks out! (I have never used it in the diaper area- used it on our sheets ONCE and the poor kid was covered on his face, arms, and legs (was wearing a onesie to bed).

So tell me.......

I use a & h
Once in a while I accidentally buy the one with bleach and it smells so bad I have to throw it out. Even the clothes stink after they are washed. It's a awful perfuney chemical smell.
oh, I have had "some" problems with stinky fleece, but just very old happy heinys and now that I think about it they haven't been stinking lately. I usually do a double hot wash every other time. My hemp is fine tho.
