I'm not gonna be much help, but welcome to the SW. I've been once. Dh did an internal medicine rotation (he was in PA school) and I taught a class at their continuing ed. Dh was at the hospital or office most of the time, but he thought the city was nice and I thought everyone there was nice. We enjoyed the museum, too. Because of the base, it is probably a little more cosmopolitan for its size than other places. You are close to some interesting things, like White Sands and Cloudcroft, a mountain resort. So when it's hot in Alamogordo, you can get a little reprieve on the mountain!
