Anyone get pregnant very soon after your baby was born?

It's true that you have to have your period first before you can get pregnant, right? To ovulate obviously. We're not using any contraceptives yet, because we feel like it's pretty "impossible" to get pregnant so soon... are we right?

experiences? Don't scare me!

You can ovulate before you menstruate.

Please don't think you can't get preggo if you're not menstruating. It's a myth.

RIght, ovulation happens first, then menstruation. Don't take chances unless you're ok with babies very very close in age.

I am.
That sounds crazy, but I believe if it happens, it happens and it's meant to be. That's just how we roll...

Okay, wait. I just got started to panic when I remembered that one day we decided we would start trying, and the next month I was pregnant.

Having talk with husband tonight.

SOME women do having a warning period before ovulation resumes. You can definitely watch your fertility signs (mainly cervix and CM) to see if your fertility is returning.
You can get pregnant before you get PPAF, BUT you only ovulate 1 time before PPAF, and it's typically 10-16 days before you get your 1st PPAF. So there's really no way to tell for sure. I've felt like I was O'ing or getting AF about 4 times over the last 2 months and so far no AF, of course that could me I got pregnant again, but not likely, I do take PG tests every 6 weeks or so just to be sure.

I didn't think I would get pregnant so soon anyway, it took 21 cycles to get Bodie.
I got pregnant before having a period, but it definitely wasn't soon after my first was born! She was around 19 months.
I had a child pass away at 7 weeks old (who I was breastfeeding), and got pregnant about a month after she died. I did not get my period in between.
My women's health teacher said, "I had my baby, planned on nursing her for a couple years so I wouldn't get pregnant again, thought I was doing good because I had no period and then 11 months [after she was born], her sister arrived!"
Anything is possible, but if you're ecologically breastfeeding (on demand, through the night, no artificial nipples) you are unlikely to ovulate without a period first in the first 4 months. LAM is about 95% effective like that. If you're not comfortable with that margin, add condoms or something as well, or at least withdrawal, for added protection.

When your cycles return you could try FAM if you like going without hormones or devices (at least most of the time). It can also help you see signs your body is trying to O before cycles return (like increased slippery discharge for instance). Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great book to help you get started with that.
... But I have an 8 month old and we just found out we are expecting again. I exclusively breastfeed and my period returned 2 months after my 8 month old was born. We use the rhythm method and were really careful... but alas, i am still pregnant.
My first two are 12.5 mos. apart and I was exclusively nursing and had no period. I was quite in shock when I found out I was pg. So nope, its not impossible.

Or you can be like me who did all the "right" things and got my AF back at 9wks pp. It really does vary from woman to woman.

A mama in my DDC from DS2 (an MDC mama) got preg around 6-7 weeks pp. It can happen. I've also had a few friends who nursed on demand with no pacifiers or bottles and ended up still getting their PPAFs within a few months after the baby was born.

I heard of a mama like Jilian who found out she was PG at her 6 week post partum check-up when she was getting an Rx for the pill. They automatically test prior to giving out contraceptives and it came back positive.

I had a few warning signs that my cycles were going to return (at 4 months after DS was born ... not using any bottles or pacis!
). I had about a week of EWCM and then AF showed up.

She wasn't feeling well so just for the heck of it she took a test and SURPRISE!

The MW I had with DS1 also warned me that she has had more than just a few mamas come into their 6 week pp appointments asking about birth control only to find out they were preg. I guess a lot of people think you can't get pregnant right after having a baby. I personally cannot even imagine having sex for the first 2 mos after the baby is born. I usually bleed for the whole 6 weeks!

This was me. I had my first period at 3 months post partum. No ovulatory signs before that. I've since had two ovulatory cycles, but the 2nd one was w/ a LPD (only 7 days long). The last one was a full cycle, ready to send us another baby lol.

Not me, but my mom. She was cutting back on nursing me (I was 3 months old and back then they started solids at 6 weeks), no cycle after having me, and my sister was born 12 months and 9 days after me.
She was pretty shocked when 3 months into her second pregnancy she went to the doctor and found out she was due right after my first birthday.
