My doctor tells me I have thyroid nodules and they should be checked out. My research seems to indicate that this is usually not serious, but I wondered if anyone has had them and what was your experience?

I am not a doctor, so I can't tell you if your nodules are good or bad. I'm a third semester ultrasound student and I've seen lots and lots of them!

Most of our female patients who come in for a thyroid ultrasound have nodules and most of them are benign.

If your doctor is concerned he/she should order a thyroid ultrasound or a nuclear med test along with Thyroid Hormone (TH3) lab levels.

If it is cancerous, (and again, they usually are not) most thyroid cancers are very treatable and have excellent prognoses.

Probably nothing to worry about - but do get it checked out.
