I need to go in for an endoscopy in the next few weeks and I'm nursing my 13 month old. My doc said no problem...and I don't think it is a problem. Just wondered if there were any suggestions on the best way to go about things?

They will put me under a twighlight type sedation.

Never undergone one, but done plenty of them. Upper or lower? The sedation wears off pretty fast, so that shouldn't be an issue. You may feel really bloated afterwards.

Those are usually better tolerated afterwards. At our institution, you will be in the endoscopy suite around 3-4 hours (1 hour before the scope, 1/2 hour to 1 hour for the scope, and another 1-2 hours for recovery.) You'll have an IV, which they will probably leave in until you are walking out the door, so consider which side you want them to try for based on which side you might be nursing on right before or after. They probably won't let your baby in (at least, I've never seen children in ours but I don't know that we've had that situation) but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

HTH! Good luck!
