The way we told family this time was a picture of our son with the caption "I'm gonna be a big brother in January 2008!"

If his birthday or your anniversary is coming up, you could put the HPT in a small box, wrap it, and give it as an extra gift. That's how I told Dh we were expecting our second since it was near Christmas.

Or you could bake a birthday cake with a New Birthday Coming message, or whatever works for you.

Congratulations!

Someone I know IRL went to the florist and picked out a bouquet to have delivered to her dh at work. She took the HPT and attached florist wire to it (with florist tape--she had to do it herself because of the bodily fluid factor, but the florist was happy to accomodate her) and stuck it down in the bouquet among the flowers. Then just wrote "I love you, hope you are having a great day!" on the card and had it delivered. It took him awhile to even find the HPT, then took him awhile longer to figure out what it was, and what it meant, LOL!

Me, I'm way too impatient to come up with surprises for dh....and usually way too shellshocked, LOL! Besides which, by the time it occurs to me to test, he has already figured it out! Every time! He needs to start sending ME flowers with (unused) HPT tests in them!

Congrats to your friend--I hope her dh is thrilled, no matter how she tells him!

We did the big brother t-shirt when I got pg with DD....he wore it for people we'd see in person (it's amazing how little attention people pay to what shirts say!!!) and sent an email pic of him wearing it to everyone else.

The bouquet is cute, but he won't be working Sat. and that's when I plan to tell him (he has his first "real" guitar playing gig Friday night and I don't want to mess him up!...though it's killing me!).

Hmm....maybe you could give him flowers after the gig? Or would that totally destroy his street cred? I have no idea what's acceptable for musicians, LOL!

What about take-out Chinese on Saturday and put a "Congratulations, Daddy-to-be!" note inside a fortune cookie or something? What's your budget--you could hire a skywriter or a prop plane pulling a banner.....prolly not enough time to implement, LOL!

Someone in our DDC had a really cute idea. Take a picture of your family (I see you already have 2 kids), put it on the front of a card. Inside the card, write:

"Picture developing: 15 cents (or whatever it costs you)
Card supplies: $1.25
Seeing your face when you realize there are 5 of us in this photo: priceless"

I thought it was really cute. Unfortunately, we'd already told all our family by the time I heard the idea.

Have fun!

I'm just gonna put this out there.

If someone gave me a used HPT, I would be grossed out. So if you do that, be sure dh isn't like me first!

A friends mother gave her husband a baby name book and wrote on the inside "to the father of our child, love X"

I always thought that was lovely.

When we found out we were going to have a fourth child, we didn't tell our family until Christmas.

At my mom's house on Christmas day, I wrote on her prayer board where she has all our names listed. At the end of my family, I added in "+baby".

It took her a week to see it. Shows you how much they look at that prayer board, huh?!

I drew DP a comic of a sperm swimmin' away, gettin excited and hugging the egg, with the last panel, "Look what *you* did!" and brought it when I picked him up from work. He was really confused when I told him he couldn't smoke a cigarette in the car, and when he asked why, I handed him the comic! Hehehe the look on his face

Don't know if this would work for you, but I told Honey Pie by taking him for a walk to the gazebo we built on our wedding day,and asking him if he would turn it into a birth house for our baby. He's still working on it- and we're 37 weeks on Monday!

So, True Blue, have you told him yet? I'm dying to hear how it went, and what his reaction was!

Mtn.mama, that sounds so neat! Great way to tell him, but the idea of a birth house is just so awesome! I hope he gets it finished for you in time!

DH always made me take the test with him, so I never got to use any creative things. This last time I peed on the stick and it didn't cross the screen. After a minute or so we figured it was a bad test and DH handed me some water to drink so I could pee again ASAP! I put the kids to bed and went in to take a shower (DH was on the phone) and low and behold that test was +!!! I stared in disbelief and started bawling. Not the best reaction!

That's what I did to my DF! I came out of the bathroom, threw the stick at him and said, "Congratulations, you're going to be a father!"

He said "Why is the stick warm?"
(To be fair, I was in shock too! Completely unplanned here!)
