I don't have a low supply. I started taking More Milk Plus to increase my pumping yields while working. DS will take 16+oz of BM in my 8 hour shift. I have a hard time pumping that much milk out on top of nursing each day. I am on day 3 of the tincture, and I did not notice any increase in my output the last 2 nights at work. DS is sleeping through the night, so I know that does not help. Has anyone had the feungreek NOT work?? I was expecting to be busting with milk by now!

Fenugreek didn't help me, but I did have low supply. Domperidone and Reglan are the only things that helped.

Since you don't have a supply problem, it could be that it just won't help you make even more milk. If you're already doing everything you can to get the best results from your pump (being nice and relaxed, not rushed, pump in working order, parts replaced such as the rubber flaps, etc), then the only other thing I can think of is to add another pumping session later in the day.

For a long time, I was only able to pump enough for DD by pumping at night and in the morning too. I'd also pump after every feed on the weekend just to have some extra to use later in the week. Up until recently, I had to pump 4 times a day just to have enough milk for 2 bottles while I was at work.

Good luck, I hope you can boost your supply more!

Fenugreek didn't help me either, but I too definately have a big supply problem. Domperidone was the only thing that I've found to help (I wasn't willing to try Reglan since Domperidone was available). Though I definately wouldn't recommend that if you don't truly have a supply problem. I doubt it would work anyway.

I totally second what crazydiamond said. If you have to, get yourself up to pump in the night. In our situation, dd goes to bed around 3 hours before I do, so I pump before I go to bed.

It's possible that other herb combinations would work for you, too. I don't remember off the top of my head, but there are a number of herbs that can supposedly be taken together for best results. Or you just may be at your body's max ... ?

Good luck!

What kind of pump do you have? Some work better than others.

Ditto, ditto, ditto to all of this--fenugreek didn't work for me either but I had severe supply problems with DS (never developed full supply from the beginning). These are good suggestions, esp. replacing the pump valves--maybe it ain't sucking as well? What kind of pump are you using BTW? You might have to "upgrade" (which is still cheaper than formula, trust me!) Also are your menstural cycles returning, or have they already? Sometimes that can cause a dip in supply. If your DS is sleeping through the night your hormones might be adjusting a bit. It is terrible to contemplate but you might want to consider pumping right before you go to bed, or if you wake in the middle of the night have the pump right there and see if you can get out a few oz before you go back to sleep.

Thanks for all your replies. I am only taking the recommended amount on the bottle, however I am close in weight to the next recommended amount. Nothing on me smells like maple syrup.

I use a Medela PIS. I just replaced the valves. It seems to be working fine. I also pump at work with an Ameda hospital grade pump. I also pump right before I leave for work, twice at work, and once when I get home. I can pump out a bit extra first thing in the am after he nurses.

I did ask my LC at work about getting up in the night on the nights I am not working. She thought I was crazy (she also didn't recommend any herbs either)

I am also on weight watchers for nursing mothers. I had an oversupply I think before I started this diet. I eat healthy and certainly am not hungry or starving myself LOL. Before I started this though my bbs were firm alot during the day, and he actually was having a bit of a foremilk/hindmilk problem resulting in green stools. I didn't think at the time that is was this problem as they boobs softened with each feed. But when I starting eating better, the milk volume calmed down and the stools went back to normal. (however I am loosing weight slowly and am NOT going to go back to pigging out like crazy just to up my supply..however tempting that is LOL)

I will contemplate getting up in the night and I am going to up the fenugreek for few days. If that doesn't do the trick, then I will stop taking it. I don't want to go to dom or reglan as I really don't have a supply problem. It will just be a bit more challenging ot get the full amounts!

Fenugreek capsules worked loads better for me than the MM+ tincture. I take 4 caps 4x daily, which is the maximum dose.

16oz in 8 hours seems like a lot to me; maybe if you could get your babe to feed a little at night (when supply is naturally greatest) it would reduce the daytime demand a little. Are you cosleeping? You could get him latched on, in his sleep, even, and then go back to sleep yourself... that would be a lot less awful than getting up to pump, IMHO.

I have supply issues, and found from my own experience and other moms, you might need to take more fenugreek. I took about 20 caps a day, plus 15-20 caps of blessed thistle to keep my milk up... Mama's are all different and what might work for one, might not be enough for another! Good luck!

Oh! You need to take much, much, more Fenugreek! You can take up to 9-12 capsules a day. I'd start off with 3 capsules, 3x/day and increase until you smell like maple syrup. The amount listed on the bottle is NOT the dosage for increasing milk and it's so small it it's not going to have any effect.

So hopefully have you up your dosage you'll have more milk!

Oh? Even on the More Milk Plus bottle?? I am taking the tincture, so how many ml's is the equivelent of the pills?? That is pretty stupid that they advertise that their product increases milk, but they are putting the wrong dosage on the bottle!

Oh okay, if you're taking the tincture from Motherlove, then you're A-OK! The dosaging on there is just fine then. Otherwise, yeah, it would be stupid for them to advertise that it helps milk production. But if you just picked up a bottle of fenugreek caplets from the grocery store, THAT dosaging is wrong.

I have no idea what dosaging of fenugreek the tincture is equal to, but I know the More Milk Plus has a lot of other stuff in it. You could try taking a little more than you are and see if it helps. I hope it does, though, because like I said, herbs didn't help me at all
