Hi All! I hope someone can give me some reassurance and/or advice:

I have been taking progesterone for a week, im 4 weeks (from conception) today! Yesterday morning I noticed my vaginal area felt dry and itchy. I was thinking yeast infection, but the medication says dont take when pregnant without Docs permission. So I figured I'd wait it out to see if it went away. Then last night I had brownish c/m when i wiped. I called the "ask a nurse line" and she put me in touch with the OB on call. He said its old blood being brought out by the irritation from the suppositories. I did a search on here and read everything I could find last night. I'm concerned it could also be an infection. My OB doesnt wanta do a physical until the 20th (when I'll be over 8 weeks from LMP), but I'm worried and would like one sooner. Today when I called the nurse, she said there was no reason for concern. Any thoughts? Anyone had anything like this happen from suppositories? Would you "demand" a vaginal exam??

Why are you using progesterone suppositories in the first place?

If itching is bothering you, vagisil is safe to use during pregnancy, tho of course you should check with your care provider first.

I had spotting like that from cervical irritation all through my first trimester. Never did find out what caused the irritation, it was probably the same thing that irritated my skin, possibly the tap water where I was living...

Yep, progesterone suppositories can definitely cause irritation. They can also cause the reddish/brownish discharge. There is one brand in particular that is known for being especially irritating but I can't remember it off the top of my head. You could talk to whoever prescribed them to you to see if taking them rectally is a possibility - sounds gross, I know but works better for some people!

thank you for the responces. I havent noticed anymore brown or red c/m or blood... but am still feeling some vaginal irritation.

ravin- the suppositories are to increase my progesterone which tested low. I asked for the test and the suppositories after having a miscarriage... its questionable about whether or not it helps, but it cant hurt you, as you urinate out whatever extra your body does not need, and at least it puts my mind at ease a little about repeated miscarriage...

milkfacemamma- very cute name... thank you for the suggestion of taking them rectally... if I am still having irritation, when I see my OB next, I will ask about them... its nice to know what your choices are... so thank you for bringing that to my attention.

do either of you know of any safe soap to use to clean vaginally during pregnancy, everything I've read has said to only use water, but it would be nice to feel clean...
