I know fleece as a fabric works well as a cover, so I'm thinking of knitting a fleece soaker for ease of washability. I got some of the fleece yarn made by Knit One Crochet Two- it makes a nice soft, thickish swatch and I'm hoping it will work to cover a diaper. Anyone try this before? It's pricer than I would usually spend on this amount of yarn so if this isn't a good idea I can use it for a different project.

I haven't tried it before but it sounds interesting. If it can be done I'd love to do it. Can you give the link to the place you bought it from? I haven't seen fleece yarn anywhere.

I don't know about fleece yarn, but I know some people use acrylic yarns with success. They need to be laundered more frequently, is all -- and I don't think I'd try to lanolize them! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
I'd like to see a link to that yarn though -- it sounds kinda cool!

I started knitting it and we will see how it holds up! I could only find this yarn at one place online- yarnmarket, though I usually don't like to shop there. They have <a href="http://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Knit_One_Crochet_Too_Yarn-Fleece_Yarn-1229.html" target="_blank">solids</a> and <a href="http://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Knit_One_Crochet_Too_Yarn-Fleece_Multi_Yarn-3060.html" target="_blank">multi-colored</a>.

I've never seen fleece yarn, but I'm doing my newborn sizes in acrylic (and doing a lot of them, but they're small, easy, and cheap). I decided on that because it seems like newborn blowouts are almost inevitable and this will be easier to wash. I'm under the impression that if I wash them with fabric softener in my regular laundry, they'll repel pee sort of like if they were lanolized (but probably not as well as wool). Since a newborn is changed so much, I'm feeling like that'd be ok.

It worked! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">. He wore them today over his naptime diaper and it stayed nice and dry on the outside. I took some pics on my camera but haven't put them on my computer yet.<br><br>
Anyhow, the yarn makes a very nice soft, plush fabric. The only thing is that the fleece is strung on a very unflexible piece of polyester thread so the CO and BO have to be very, very loose otherwise it's quite tight. But once it's knit up it has the normal amount of elasticity to the stitches.
