I just signed up for the online Weight Watchers this week, and Dh is also joining me. However, I can only find out what points I get, specifically, for my weight. Not for his. I don't want to have to spend a lot more money that I already have just to sign him up to get his point range when he will not be using any of the online tools anyways. I was wondering if anyone knew the formula of how many points you get for what weight?

Or even if you could post something about how much you weight/how many points you get or a succession if you've lose weight of how the points dropped as you lost weight (ie I know that when I hit 250 my points will go to 28, then at 225 26 points from reading the ww boards). Dh weighs a lot more than me (he won't tell me exactly) so we're just trying to figure out the formula. We've made a guess, but he's *starving* all the time, so I think its too low. But we don't want to overguess and he doesn't loose any weight either...

I'd ask on the WW boards, but they would probably not like me trying to get a "freebie", but honestly I just gave them $60 for three months to be online, and don't want to have to pony up more cash just to figure out Dh's points. And no, I can't just change my inital weight for a moment and change it back, you have to contact the IT staff to do that and they would probably catch on

Thanks so much!!

Thanks! Yeah he's really embarrassed... Now is 34 the upper limit? Like no one gets more than 34 points ever? Because if so, *thats* gonna be a big issue. Dh is on 40 points right now and still *starving* constantly. But for the last 2-3 weeks he's been starving all the time anyways, and we just started WW on wensday. So I wonder if that's something ele?

He even just ate a very filling lunch with chicken, a cup of rice, a jumbo tortilla with veggies (great goodness! Those things are SO many points! I didn't realize! We will be hunting for a better option), 2% cheese, and crackers and peanut butter and he was *still* hungry! Usually he'd be stuffed from that... so I dunno... told him to webmd it, see if it clicks with anything...

I think I'm doing better than Dh (since I didn't blow my flex points on beer and hard drinks like he did when he went out with a buddy... I've got mine squirrled away gonna have a nice dinner tonight before roll over tommorow), my first weigh in is tommorow, so I got a nice scale, my original weight I did at a 'drop a quarter in' machine at the mall just so I could *start* WW, and now I'm going to be weighing consistantly undressed on the scale I bought, but man, for the first week I'm gonna get a good ego boost on how much I "lost" (I was calibrating the scale and as of last night a 5.5 pound difference) :LOL Yeah yeah, I know a little is clothing, and who knows if the scales are weighing the same, but I'm gonna feel good about it anyways
It'll give me motivation to keep going, and since I know the *average* is 1-2 pounds a week after the inital drop I'll still be realistic about later weigh ins (I hope
).

I don't think it's necessary to say this is just my opinion, not Weight Watchers.
34 is the upper limit for WW, but if he can eat 40 and still lose weight, then I would go for 40 and reduce it gradually as soon as he can. He may lose less than if he went with 34, but he may do just fine. I think it's better to start somewhere he's comfortable and be able to do it than to try for something too stringent, get frustrated and give up, you know?
My partner has been VERY hesitant about the whole WW thing and I'm just so thrilled she's doing it with me that I'm willing to give leeway on some of the specifics as long as it works.

I lost 30 pounds using weight watchers a little over 2 years ago, then I met my partner, went back to school and sort of, well, just forgot about it. I just started again, though, so I'm looking forward to the big loss this week also!

yep, I'd do that too, keep it at 40 for a while if he is losing, and when he starts to plateau, drop it a few points. If it makes him feel any better, I was *starving* for the first few weeks of ww, but it evened out. There were times when I would be starving again, but I always told myself I would not actually *starve* since I had the extra poundage and it would keep me going! :LOL Good luck to you and dh...I lost about 45 lbs last year in seven months on ww last year and felt awesome (til I got pg again
, but this pg is soooo much easier than dd!)

Well he's been feeling starving for about 2 weeks *before* we started, no matter what he ate, still hungry! So I dunno if that might be something else, medically...

I've found that I can eat a lot of vegetables or even grains and still feel very hungry, but if I eat protein, things get better. For example, if I eat a big bowl of cereal in the morning, I'm starving an hour later, but if I eat peanut butter or a couple of ounces of chicken, I do okay. Of course my body is way different from his and I don't know what he usually eats, but maybe switching the types of food around would help.

Also, is he drinking water? I know I'm "hungry" when I'm not drinking enough. My dh rarely touches water, so if he's anything like that, maybe that's part of the issue (of course, my dh is one of those annoying people who eats anything & still wears his high school jeans at age 38). I'm doing WW (i'm on my 5th week) and rarely feel hungry.

GOOD LUCK

Oh, and one more thought.... when I eat refined carbs (white rice, cereal, etc) I'll often 'crave' more food after I eat (specifically sweet things). For me, they just make me have cravings, etc. Maybe switching to whole wheat tortillas/wraps, brown rice, bran cereal, whole grain bread, etc would be more filling & wouldn't leaving him craving more.

You can switch your "guide" to the Core Plan and let your dh check out the Core Food list. You won't lose any of the information you have under the Flex Plan guide. There is no counting involved other than the 35 weekly Points Allowance. You eat the foods off the list, until satisfied. Any foods not on the list (like bread) you use your 35 WPA for.

Core appeals more to me because I enjoy eating more whole foods and not having to count. I've lost 55lbs on Core since it was introduced back in August of last year. I've lost 67lbs total on WW, FWIW.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone
He drinks water like mad, but anything wheat repulses him. I always have to buy seperate bread since I prefer wheat...

He never really craves sweets (that's me
) but rather his downfall is chips and cheese and dip and whole milk and such.

GuavaLava, I'd switch him to core but that would make life difficult for me, since I'm the one buying and making all the foods and we have never been very good at the whole food lifestyle, so that would be an even more major switch for us. It might be a good option later though... once I've got this system down better. And I'm also kinda ticked because *he's* been the one wanting to diet, commenting if he thinks I'm eatting a food too late, or going to fast food, or having too much butter/mayo what-have-you and now I'm doing all the work, and recording his food and figuring out what he can have point wise for snacks and dinner and junk, and I really *don't* want to have to custom make food for two different diets.

Congrats on the weight lost though!! That's awesome

I've got a bit over hundred pounds to loose, ugh (was overweight to begin with and quitting smoking several years ago packed on another 50 or so). And Dh has over two hundred. Double ugh. So its a long battle... And I am so *not* a patient person. I want now now now :LOL

But on the way cool front, I did my weigh in and lost 9 pounds!! Ok, really, because the first time I weighed was dressed and now nude on a different scale its probably more around 4, but still! Yeah!!!

I just wanted to add that the OP may want to check into the Turnaround Program cookbook. The book has 125 recipes, all of which are Core, but also include the Points for Flex. I usually increase the spices/herbs in the recipes as they tend to be a little bland.

You can walk into any WW and buy the book. You don't have to be a member.

Don't forget that in addition to the 34 daily points, you get a total of 35 bonus points to use each week (and can earn up to another 28 weekly points through exercise--which WW will tell you about in a few weeks).

I second trying Core. It is not THAT weird
I love it and am 5 lbs of my WW goal on it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE not counting points and being food obsessed!!

Here is a sample day on Core, just trying to prove to you that it is not that weird, this is actually what I did/will eat today and I could have more if hungry:

bfast - bowl oatmeal, skim milk, fruit, Splenda, cinnamon (I combine all of the above, but whatever floats your boat)

lunch - white fish with salsa served over canned (rinsed) black beans (this was last night's dinner, leftover), baby carrots

snack - sugar free pudding made with skim milk (I greatly prefer the kind you cook on the stove, takes about 5 min to make, I do not like the instant)

dinner - stir fry made with chicken, drained, canned pineapple, a bag of stir-fry veggies, soy/teriyaki over brown rice

snack - 94% fat free popcorn

Note that I did not say HOW MUCH of anything because you eat until satisfied (not FULL or OVERFULL). I think this sounds like a great plan for your DH - and if you do bother to count the points, you will probably find you are within range.

The key to Core is eating foods that are high in water content and minimally processed. Why not try it for a week?

HTH and good luck. I'd never make it on Points, but that's just me

Oh I never said it was weird Tracey, just points are working very very well for me, and I don't want to give that up, nor do I want to have to figure out one diet for me on points, and another for Dh on core. It would mean cooking two different dinners, and that doesn't work for me at all. I was raised on fast food and processed everything, its a huge switch for me to just be doing the points, and I've looked at the core program, it isn't really something I want to even try at the moment. I'm really glad its working for you though!

Then in that case I agree with the posters who say if he is losing on more points, more power to him! If his weight loss slows, he will have to either decrease points or increase exercise.

So glad you had such a nice loss for your first week, btw! Doesn't that feel great??
