Hi,

I'm new to these boards. They advice around here is plentiful, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a good alternative or "natural" mascara. I'm 50, and in the last year or so feel like my eyes have become sensitive to mascara by the end of the day. I've always used the same brand, Almay, but would love to find some other kind, if there is one out there that is more natural.

There are some clear mascaras, and I'm wondering if they would be milder. I do want to wear something to dress up my eyes, but since macular degeneration runs in my family, I want to take very good care of my eyes, too.

Thanks in advance.

I started having irritation and itching about a year ago at night after I had worn it all day. I know we are supposed to replace it often and I usually do.

I'm just concerned about the ingredients over the long term. However I was thinking of using something "old" like Maybelline that's been around for a while and has a track record. I purchased some neutrogena the other day and don't care for it at all. Should have known not to buy a product with a relatively new track record.

I really don't even like the idea of chemical ingredients around my eyes..........but I do want a little dressing up!

Thanks.

I think the clear mascaras irritate less. You can also try an eyelash curler and some, perhaps a dab of cocoa butter for 'fullness and sticking eyelashes together'.

Oddly, I've been using the Wet and Wild mascara that's barely $1 for the past 6 months and it doesn't bother me as much as the gloopy, flaky other ones. I also try not putting it too much near the roots where it's more likely to seep into my eyes.

But yeah, among the mascaras I may have tried, I think the clear ones irritate less but you can't touch your eye much, or else the clear stuff flakes and it looks like you have eye dandruff, lol.

I find that regular mascara irritates me - not chemically, but just mentally. It's clumpy and nasty and just plain messy.
: Neutrogena makes a lash tint, that I"ve been really happy with. My eyelashes are really light, so the tint, while not making them appear any thicker, makes them darker, and thats enough for me. I dunno how "green" it is though, I just know that without it, I don't seem to have eyelashes at all.

I like my mascara from Aveda.. I use the rose scented one, it's actually made with rose petals.
Someone here recomended it a long time ago so I got some
I get everything else there, why not?

When I was a child and I wanted to be a "grown-up" my mom used to let me put vasaline on my lashes using an old mascara wand. I don't know how good for your eyes it would be, but I never had any dis-comfort. It is petroleum based though---far from natural. But boy did I feel like a sexy teenager wearing my make-up when I was 12!
