I don't, but I know a guy who does. He gives me a bottle every couple of years of his berry hooch. One Grolsch bottle full lasts years and years.

He makes it by putting all his leftover berries that he buys all summer in one of those large, plastic water bottles you get for water coolers. It's topped with an oxygen-loop thingy (is that the technical term? ) and he adds a bit of sugar with each addition.

After like a year of this he has some of the most delicious, s-t-r-o-n-g alcohol you've ever tasted. Like schnaaps, but not as sweet and must stronger. He cuts his with vodka, I cut mine with a bit of tonic or cheap champagne, if I'm feeling festive.

We've made it before, but just to turn into vinegar. We made brown rice wine. The vinegar was pretty tasty.

That oxygen loop thingy is called an airlock. It lets the fermentation gases escape without letting air back in which would ruin the ferment.

You can ferment pretty much anything sweet or starchy. Oh if I'd only known this when I was a teen! :LOL

What specifically are you trying to make? Medicinal alcohol for using as an antiseptic, a drinking 'hooch' type alcohol, a fermented wine or beer?

If you want to do something along the lines of a pleasant alcholic drink, I would suggest getting the Wild Fermentations book, or one specifically on brewing wine/beer/mead.

I'm trying to make a 'honey mead' currently and it's wonderful stuff. I won't be able to drink my batch for several months, but I have tasted friends mead, and WOW, it's nice.

I've made mead! I want to start vinting with the grapes off the vines I got from freecycle, and will try beer one of these days.
