I saw that too - we would love to go but the boys are a bit young so we are unsure how it would go. Have you been before with small kids?

There are so many workshops and activities that are right in our areas of interest too - it would be GREAT to go.

This is our first year ever going.

DD is 2 1/2 ish and loves to camp with us so we're anticipating a pretty easy time of it. She loves being outside and really enjoys just walking around and checking things out. Give her a brochure or flier to carry around and she's in heaven.

DH and I will probably take turns going to workshops and we also have the luxury of her 15 y/o big bro to help out once in a while.

Looks fun & interesting! I will have to talk to DH. I see the tent camping is full.:

We will be there like every year. We love it!!! We will be camped at the Back 40 campground. My husband and I take turns watching our son (he's almost 4 this year...but has attended the last 2 years with us) while the other attends workshops. Sometimes he'll sit through part of a workshop if I have a little activity to do. The kid's area is very fun, plan on them getting quite dirty. They can do art projects, be in a parade, listen to storytellers, music, they put out bubbles and instruments and legos and other toys.

DF and I might go. We'll be living in Stevens Point for the summer, so it'll be an easy jaunt on over if we decide to attend. I'd offer house/yard space, but we haven't seen the place we're going to be renting for the summer, so I don't want to offer what I haven't yet seen myself!

We're going this year for sure. DD2 is a crappy sleeper and unhappy camper so we're staying in a hotel in SP. Since we might be building this year, we're ultra excited about who/what we'll find there.

Oh, and we're traveling in from menomonie.

eta: DDs are 5yo and 21 months

We won't be able to make it, but keep an eye (and ear) out for our friends, Patchouli. They're playing at 3PM on the 15th.

We are planning on going. I'm not sure if we'll camp at Hartman's Creek or just daytrip (we live in the Fox Cities).

Okay, we're working on getting packed and looking over the workshop schedule.

Any ideas on side attractions in the area? I've tried googling, but not coming up with a lot.

I'd like a nice lake with swimming beach. DD *loves* swimming!

Oh, and we'll be camping the Back 40 with our pop-up camper.

Just realized we're going to miss helen caldicott!! Boo hoo!: I was totally psyched to hear her, but we won't get there in time. Most of our time will be spent there Sat and Sunday. DP is going alone on Friday afternoon. If you see a tired mama nursing her almost-two year old while her 5yo complains about how tired she is, that's me!

O well, y'all enjoy her for us.

I don't know of any side attractions but the folks who run the fair will certainly be able to help you. Everyone is awesomely friendly.

We will be in the Back 40 too with our pumpkin colored VW Westy camper. Site #12 Friday and Saturday night. Stop by and visit. I would love to put faces to some MDC moms.

I *think* we're in site 21 (don't have the reg form nearby). We have a pop-up camper and will have a green Chevy Tahoe parked in the site too. We'll be there on Thurs, Fri, Sat nights for sure. We registered for Sun night, but we'll see how things go.

I'd also love to meet up with other MDC mamas.

We're finishing up the packing now, so I'll be offline, but if you see a zaftig redheaded mama with a little redheaded toddler girl and her bearded daddy, that's us!

I live in Stevens Point at the moment... if anyone needs any specific info on the area, just ask. I always have trouble thinking of things for visitors to do, though... I don't know this place as a tourist. It's not a huge tourist area (further north is, though), so I can see how googling wouldn't get you much. But if you're looking for something specific, I might be able to come up with something.

Lake Emily has a decent beach. You have to go down a big hill to get to it, but the water's pretty clear.

I didn't find you at site #21, was it a different one? I forgot that you weren't certain. Oh well. Did you have fun?

We ended up leaving early.

We were there on Thursday night and 'til about 7pm on Friday. We decided early in the evening on Friday that we didn't want a repeat of Thursday night (DD crying and screaming because she didn't want to go to sleep at 11pm).

We could *not* get her to nap, sleep, or eat and as a result she was miserable and so were we.

This is a new thing for her - she's been camping since she was 8 months old and we never had problems before.

It was pretty hot and humid and the campers were close together down on our end which didn't allow for much air flow.

I think next year we'll either stay at a motel or use another campground. We had a big (24-30') camper just a few feet away from ours with their exhaust vent blowing down into our seating area.

I was afraid things might not have gone well for you. Sorry to hear. We didn't have the full on tantrum but our son did have a really hard time going to sleep both nights we were there. He normally goes down really easily about 8pm but there he didn't fall asleep until after 10:30pm. The first day at the fair he decided he only wanted to be at the campground. Fortunately a friend of ours had come with his family and he was happy to stay at the campground to entertain the kids. Then on Sunday, after a total meltdown at breakfast due to a polka band that was too loud, my ds did manage to spend the morning riding on his daddy's shoulders and so my dh could at least chat with some vendors. Next year I think we are going to leave my ds with his grandparents for that weekend. In a normal year I don't mind just skipping things that interest me in order to hang out with my ds, but these next 2 years we are trying to design a house to build.

We went on Saturday and had lots of fun, but I didn't end up a any grown-up workshops. DH went to a couple. I just really enjoyed the atmosphere and seeing momma's NIP children older/bigger than my own 2 yo, other human using cloth diapers, ect.
