i never considered myself to be someone who would be interested in homeschooling but now i really find myself attracted to the idea of schooling ds (3) and dd (1 month today!) when it comes time.

but my ultimate goal was to go back to school as soon as the kiddos were in school. i have a lot of dreams career-wise... i am interested in just about everything there is, from psychiatry to midwifery to teaching math or chemistry or even artistic careers like photography or fashion design. of course some are more practical than others, but my interests are all over the place and i know i would feel like i was letting myself down if i didnt pursue something. (im most interested in the medical field right now, could have to do with just having had a baby)

i dont want to put my goals ahead of my kids education but i also know that i can take steps to ensure that their traditional schooling experience is great and i can supplement it where i see fit.

i am young enough that i have time to pursue a career later on, i suppose. im 23 so there is definitely time. but i watched my mom put her education off time and time again and she is just now getting back on track. i dont want that to happen to me.

how do you balance educating yourself and making sure your kids get everything they need too? how do you have a career and homeschool? can you do it or does it have to be your full time job?

I homeschool the kids and am furthering my education at the same time. My kids are 9, 7, and 5.5 and I went back to school 2 years ago. I graduate with my B.A. next month! And I'm starting graduate school in the fall.
I work part time and volunteer a lot, too.

I went back to school-fulltime- when my first was 13 months. DH and I traded off so one of us was always with him. When he was 2.5, DH started working LOONG days, so I put him in parttime daycare and continued school. I finished my BA when My first was 3 and my second was 4 weeks old.
I've been taking online courses for a few months. i'm not loving the program I'm in right now, so I'm looking at getting my teaching credential while continuing to homeschool my 6 yr old. My younger 2 will be too young for HSing. I will likely leave them with a friend/hire a sitter while I'm class.
Totally doable. It takes a little planning and balance, but it's really not that hard.

wow, i honestly didnt expect so many people to be going to school while homeschooling their kids.

for those who go to school at night, if your dp works during the day when do you get to spend time with them? i was considering going to school at night, but then i thought about how little time i would have with dh and that is a major deterrent for me. i really need to spend time with him otherwise i get really cranky.
