Was it hard? Were you happy with the results? Did you use a certain type of fleece?

I moved to Ne. a few months ago and am due in October. I'm anticipating some chilly weather. I'm an amatuer sewer, no great projects under my sleeve to speak of. I've made some ring slings, but never a pouch. I'm a little aprehensive about putting the time in, and getting a bad result. I'd love to hear some success stories!

I've done it! Fleece is great because it's has a nice stretch to it. And pouches are so easy to sew! The best directions I've come across are on www.sleepingbabyproductions.com. Jan Andrea's site is really user friendly and her patterns rock. If you run into problems, she's very helpful.

IMO, the trickiest part about making a pouch is deciding what size to make it. If you already have a pouch you like that's a bonus. If you don't, what you might do to find the right measurement for a pouch is put on your RS with a suitable baby (real or otherwise) and take a tape measure and measure around completely. But do take your time in figuring out your size. Too big pouches are a strain on your back and too small ones, well, they're just too tight.

One other vital thing to remember is NOT to have the stretch run the length of the pouch. You want the stretch to run from one rail to the next. If you run the stretch long-wise, your babe will end up at your knees.

I just made one this past week. I used Jan's directions as well. I think they are pretty straight forward and would be good for a beginner. She suggests with fleece to have the largest measurement the same as your hip to sholder measurement. I would add an inch to that if I were to do it again. However, I am still pregnant and my belly could be getting in the way. You can always take it in if too large but can't make it any longer.

I used regular anti-pill fleece from Hancock fabrics. I used my roll hem foot to finish the edges as I don't think a zig zag looks as nice. I would love to help if you have any questions as you are doing it, pm me. I made one for DD too and is is so cute.
