We are trying to figure out a way to see the Independence Day fireworks without being part of the crowd on the ground. We are simply too concerned about the safety of our kids. Anyone else changing their plans?

Chicagomom,

I always stay out of crowds, especially since having dd... more because they make me insanely crabby than because I feel unsafe. But I know what you mean. That shooting is terrifying!

I always go to Evanston to see the fireworks on the 4th. I never feel like its particularly crowded and its always very orderly and peaceful and super easy to get to by public trans (atleast for me it is... don't know what part of Chicago you are in). You couldn't pay me enough money to step anywhere near the Taste fireworks on the 3rd.

Not particularly. I can't live in fear of what might happen. If I stay away from crowds, my kid will get a mosquito bite in the backyard and end up with West Nile. Life is for living.

Now Shonahsmom--what the he*! good are your PDABS if no one sees them??? You must seek out the uninformed and spread the word!!

I figure bad things happen everywhere, I'm not going to forgo something that is reasonably safe.

That said, DH hates crowds so we will forgo them for that reason. Try to hit festivals and stuff during the week, etc...
