I'm 33 wks and I was just talking to my homebirth MW about feeling tired, low energy, etc. I thought it was because I have always had low blood pressure but she mentioned the possibility of anemia. In lieu of getting blood drawn, I asked her about trying the Floradix and if it could hurt. She said it can't hurt so I went and bought Floradix Iron and Herbs. I took my first dose this morning (liquid form) and it made me nauseous for quite a while. Anyone take the stuff before getting their iron tested? I stopped taking prenatals regularly a long time ago because they made me nauseous every time so i'm pretty sensitive. Can it hurt to take Floradix if it's not needed? Anything better out there?

Thanks

My blood was checked for anemia a few weeks ago (same time as the GTT) and my hemoglobin was still over 12, so no anemia, but I am really tired and low energy. I think it is the hotter days, the extra 27 pounds and being short of breath all time because baby is squishing my lungs! I can't wait for maternity leave to start in two blessed weeks so I can put my feet up more during the day!!!

I'm 27 weeks and I just started taking the Floradix Iron + Herbs, but the kind that is yeast and gluten free. I get so yeasty when I'm pregnant, I decided why add to it? It hasn't made me nauseous at all. I do something to get that nasty taste out of my mouth right away though. I've found that 1 jellybean takes the metallic away instantly. Maybe you could try something like that to see if it helps? BTW, I'm not taking prenatals at all either, which is why I decided to start taking the Floradix at least for my thrid tri.

Floradix literally makes me vomit! Maybe I should have tried the jellybeans!

I've been anemic with my two previous pgs, but this time, I'm not testing. I've become a huge fan of herbal treatments.

I do tinctures of yellow dock and nettles. It has worked wonders for me in this pg and my last. Nettle is just the greatest herb ever

I doubt the Floradix would hurt anything other than too much iron can be constipating. Anything that yummy can't be bad, right :puke

Thanks
Funny because I was taking Yellowdock and Nettles tea for a week for horrible all over itching I had which we feared was PUPPS. The itching was completely gone within 48 hrs of taking those herbs!! They are fantastic. I stopped though, because they also made me nauseous. So they help iron/energy? I could probably stomach a Yellowdock capsule and a cup of Nettles tea per day if it would help. I will try the OJ with the Floradix too.

Thanks again!

here's another mama doing floradix w/ iron "just in case." and it IS hard to take by itself... i try to have maybe a little milk just before, to calm my stomach, and then a meal right after (or even just a few bites of bagel or something). but i can't really do it just by itself... i'd get heartburn.

i do think it helps.

Where in the world do you get the capsules?? I've never seen them! Wow, that's such an improvement
. I tried the OJ, but that just ruined perfectly good juice
.....

I did nettles and dandelion root for my PUPPPs, and they are miraculous!!!!

I am with kiwimutti - I think Floradix is yummy. But it does make me nauseous if I don't take it with food, and sometimes, I just have to skip it and take some the next day. Nettles is also great for iron - I am taking that, too. Guess I'm getting enough iron!

I just started taking it a couple of weeks ago 'just in case'. My OB said it's not necessary, but I was feeling totally sapped, a very different way of feeling tired than usual, and I felt it was iron issues. I don't like any of the greens in Taiwan and don't eat red meat. Also, I am homebirthing in a country where I feel that the hospitals are horrible, so I really don't want to have to deal with blood issues in the hospital after birth.

BTW, I've been feeling incredibly better since the Floradix kicked in, and haven't dealt with any constipation at all.

It's funny I just got some floradix today. My iron is apparently on the low end of normal, so I thought I'd give it a boost. I have been feeling pretty tired lately. After reading all these posts and talking to people I was expecting the stuff to be horrible tasting, but I thought it tasted good too! It's sweet and tastes kind of like berries. Does anyone know how long it takes for the floradix to kick in?
