HI....
I have a problem. I have two herniated discs that have recently flaired up. I am in alot of pain and Motrin is not doing it. However, I am exclusively breastfeeding a 10 month old and do not know if it is appropriate to take something else like Vicodin. This pain usually lasts 3-4 days. Does anyone know if it's safe to take and for that long?
Please, I need an answer because I'm about to go hunting for pills.

I threw my back out a few months ago and took 800mg ibuprofin. it worked pretty good.

can you try that? (can you GET that?) b/c that is safe while BFing.

Sorry, wish I could help you out more.....

to you mama. I myself have 2 herniated disc as well as 2 protruding. My doc gave me a prescription the other day for lortab. I don't hurt that bad all the time, it just flares up every now and again and like you it lasts for a few days, sometimes to the point where I struggle to get out of bed, so I just take it when I need it. I am nursing my 4 month old and she said it was ok. I don't know vicodin is in the same class or not. I also have mastitis right now and the ER doc told me it was ok to take the lortab for pain if I needed it. Not sure if this helps, but I do sympathize with you and sure hope you get to feeling better. You can also try the 800 motrin that way if there is any swelling it will bring it down and reduce the pain some. I never had a whole lot of luck with anti inflamatories getting rid of the pain, but sometimes they do. I know when you are in that much pain though you want something fast and something that can help you rest as well. Good luck to you, hope you get to feeling much better soon.

Oh...if the vicodin has tylenol in it like lortab, don't take tylenol for pain be sure to take the motrin because that will cause you to have too much in your system...
