I am looking for a handwriting curriculum and not sure what to go with. I started looking at HWOT and it looks great but I am thinking of using Barchowsky because it teaches in the italic style, supposedly making it easier to join letters for cursive. We are teaching our children Arabic, which is always cursive so I thought that Barchowsky might be the right direction.

Any thoughts on that curriculum, especially with younger ones like Kindergarten-First grade age?

Thanks! Sara

Never heard of that one, but there is an italic handwriting curriculum sold at Sonlight with good reviews. And then there are two cursive programs that I know of that are good for K age children. We are using New American Cursive and I love it! My dd loves it too! Another is Cursive First.

Cursive First spells out all the reasons that it's better to start cursive first. But I like New American Cursive a little better, it seems easier for little hands to manage.

I'm doing Cursive First with my brand new five year old. She loves it and I'm amazed at how much her handwriting has improved- and that at 5 she can actually write in cursive. It's really affordable, too.
