Hello.
I am new to the commune. DH and i are currently seeking a midwife for baby number two for an August birth. Anyone used the new life midwives practice in Taylor? I was sent to them by a friend from church but when i talked to the lady on the phone she seemed really scattered and harsh. Not sure what to make of it. They are close to my home so i thought if i got some good feedback i might give them a try.
Thank you--Melissa

I have another vote in favor...I had a client the other day whose baby turned breech at 39 weeks...I put out my feelers in the nat. birthing community for someone who would deliver a first time birth as a breech(I was looking for both experience and confidence! I kept coming up with the same name over and over. She's supposedly really, really great. Turns out that a combo of Webster and version did the trick, but it's nice to know they're out there!

Another vote for the Birth place, although I did not end up using them (much to my regret, I chickened out because I was old and fat and also thought I could not afford them, then it turned out my insurance copays for the unpleasant hospital birth almost equaled the center's costs : ). I was quite impressed with their warmth, philosphy, and knowledge when I visited and talked with them.

Good Luck!!

If you are looking for a homebirth, you may want to cast your net a little wider as well. I am a homebirth midwife in Ann Arbor. Many of the midwives in my area make home visits for their prenatals and we are only about 25-30 minutes away from Taylor. Most of us will work within an hour from our homes. Many other Detroit-area midwives do home visits as well. Look at birthnetwork.org for listings of homebirth midwives. I can provide some Ann Arbor-based referrals if you are interested as well.

I run Trillium Birth Services in Ann Arbor. Unfortunately, I will be hiking in Canada when you are having your baby but I just wanted to let you know that there are a lot of other choices out there.

Take care,
