I was reading thru my favorite new gardening catalog (www.leevalley.com) and came upon this: http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page...t=2,2300,33272

I asked a farmer-friend I have about the validity of the claims. He says that he started hearing about the benefits about 10 years ago, but never has tried it himself.

Has anyone here tried this for their tomatoes? I am thinking of using this on half of my plants...just to see!

I've used it but I can't say that I saw fantastic results. Then again I was growing tomatoes in the self-watering pots that year from Gardener's, and they did OK but not as well as last year's did in the ground.

The plastic mulch doesn't last more than one season; it's just thin and tears easily. I think I'd be more inclined to get the red plastic thingies that snap on around the base of the plant because at least they'd last a long time.
